With elementary-age kids (ages 6 to 11)

  • SASG Holiday Tree Lot: Now through Dec. 24, sign up for a three-hour shift and help run the annual holiday tree lot on Capitol Hill that supports SASG, a nonprofit that provides peer emotional support and development services to the LGBTQ community and their allies. This fun, almost completely volunteer driven experience provides a major portion of SASG’s annual operating budget.
  • Gift Bags for Homeless Women: Fill a festive, reusable bag with $35 worth of gifts for one of the 575 women who are part of the YWCA Angeline’s Enhanced Night Program. The program serves homeless women who are ready to leave the streets and move forward in their lives. Drop off bags Dec. 14–18 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at 23rd and Jackson (look for the "promenade" complex in the lower level; the Y rents a space there for the season).
  • Tolt-McDonald Park Work Party: Help the Washington Trails Association improve and expand the trail network at Tolt-MacDonald Park in Carnation’s scenic Snoqualmie River Valley on Saturday, Dec. 16. from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. No experience is necessary, but expect to be physically active for up to six hours. Recommended for ages 10 and up; under 14 must be accompanied by an adult and anyone under 18 will need a signed parental consent form.
  • Holiday Carousel at Westlake: Now through Jan 1., volunteers of all ages can help run the Holiday Carousel at Westlake Park. Greet riders, sell tickets and collect donations of clothing and toys for Treehouse’s free store, a shop for youth in foster care. Youth under age 16 must volunteer with an adult.
