National Doughnut Day Sprinkles Sweetness Around Seattle

Where to celebrate in delicious fashion on Friday, June 7

Published on: June 05, 2019

A special holiday for doughnuts? We are totally on board. It's National Doughnut Day on Friday, June 7, 2019, and some local shops are offering sweet deals and other fun. So whether some afternoon sugar will provide the pick-me-up you need, or a frosting-covered bribe for the kiddos will get you a few moments of peace (they can't argue with doughnuts stuffed in their mouths, right?), here's where to go.

National chain Krispy Kreme offers a free doughnut on Friday, June 7, to anyone at any of its shops in the U.S. or Canada for National Doughnut Day. Krispy Kreme aims to give away a million doughnuts so you should do your part. Our favorite fine print applies here: No purchase necessary.

Original House of Donuts, a South Sound mainstay, offers free doughnuts (with a hole) to the first 1,000 customers at its Lakewood and Tacoma shops on Friday, June 7. Don't be late — they open at 6 a.m.! Kiddos can pick up a doughnut-themed coloring sheet through Thursday, June 6, and enter to win cool prizes!

Frost marks the holiday with its annual doughnut-eating contest taking place at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 7, at the Mill Creek location. Want to enter? Aspiring doughnut gobblers should register online (asap) for one of three age categories; ages 6–12, ages 13–17, and ages 18 and older. Winners earn a year's supply of doughnuts, a trophy and, duh, "eternal doughnut glory!"

You won't get any freebies at outlets of local shop Mighty-O Donuts, but you can feel good when you buy a doughnut or a dozen on National Doughnut Day. Mighty-O is donating 10 percent of Friday's doughnut proceeds to, an organization working to eliminate school lunch debt. Find Mighty-O shops in Ballard, Green Lake, Capitol Hill, Denny Triangle and at Second and Madison in downtown Seattle.

You've got to be wearing your National Doughnut Day t-shirt to get a free doughnut Friday at local purveyor Top Pot. (The shirt is available now in adult and kid sizes). Top Pot also promises a portion of Friday's sales will go to Northwest Harvest so you know your doughnuts are supporting a good cause. Top Pot has over a dozen shops from Edmonds to Tacoma and Ballard to Issaquah. On Friday afternoon, Top Pot's flagship Belltown shop hosts a show by local kindie rockers Recess Monkey (3:30 p.m.) and what they're billing as "Seattle's largest doughnut-eating contest".

We don't have any Dunkin' Donuts outlets here in the Northwest (the closest one is in Reno?), but alert your friends and relatives in other locales that Dunkin' is offering a free classic doughnut with the purchase of any beverage, at participating shops and while supplies last, on Friday, June 7.

Is your fave local doughnut shop doing something to mark National Doughnut Day? Or just want to give it a shout out? Post in the comments. Happy doughnut-eating to all.
