For as long as I can remember, I have had trouble falling asleep. Going to bed was a blessing and a curse because no matter how relieved I was to get into my warm snuggly bed, I always knew that it would take hours to finally fall asleep.

Up until a couple of months ago, I was still having these sleep problems. I would lay awake in bed, checking the clock until as late as 2:00 a.m. Then my mom brought home a Harkla weighted blanket for me to try. I knew that as soon as I got into bed like usual I would have a much better night's sleep.

I knew that as soon as I got into bed like usual I would have a much better night's sleep.

The blanket’s soothing weight lulled me to sleep very easily, giving me one to two hours of extra rest. I didn’t need to worry about being exhausted in the morning anymore because I knew that I would be able to get enough sleep. However, some of the effects of the blanket didn’t last. After a while, my body got used to the extra weight and it didn’t seem to have the same effect on my sleep. I was still getting better rest throughout the night, but falling asleep was still a challenge.

I would definitely recommend this blanket to anyone who has trouble sleeping at night. It has definitely helped my sleep stay on track and now I don’t have to worry about the bags under my eyes anymore. But if you are looking for a long-term sleeping aid, I would suggest other options or even asking a doctor about your personal sleep issues at your next appointment.

Editor's note: Harkla provided a blanket for Maya to use. All opinions expressed in this article are Maya's.
