Camp Solomon Schechter, founded in 1954, is the premier Jewish camping experience in the Pacific Northwest. Our Shabbat-observant and kosher camp is independent, rooted in Conservative Judaism. Schechter offers an innovative Jewish experience for youth of all denominations. While our largest numbers of campers come from Washington, Oregon and British Columbia, we also serve Jewish communities in California, Nevada, Idaho and Alaska, as well as Alberta, Israel and elsewhere.
Schechter is located one hour from Seattle and two hours from Portland. Our spectacular 170-acre wooded facility features breathtaking views of our very own Lake Stampfer, where campers can swim and boat. Hiking in the untouched beauty of our own forests and protected wetlands augments our exciting outdoor program. We also have our own campsite along the banks of the Deschutes River.
At Camp Solomon Schechter, we emphasize the values of integrity, derech eretz (respect), gimilut chasadim (acts of loving kindness) and tikun olam (repairing the world). We do this through sports, omanut (arts) and teva (nature) to create our ideal Jewish community. Camp builds Jewish identity and commitment, raises self-confidence, develops decision-making skills, improves social skills and physical abilities. Camp enables young people to grow by allowing them to reach inside themselves and discover talents and abilities they never knew they had.

This weeklong session is a wonderful introduction for the younger or first-time camper. Campers sample the wide variety of daily activities offered in our longer sessions while having the special experience of spending a Shabbat at camp. All of our counselors are specially trained to understand the needs of first-time campers.
For campers who register for both Aleph Rishon and Sheni
July 13 – July 14
For the day between Aleph Rishon and Sheni, there is a choice: Campers may stay over or go home for the night. (Stayover or Transportation fees apply.) We strongly recommend campers stay over at Schechter to provide the full three-week experience and to keep the camp ruach (spirit) going. Stayover is a relaxing day of swimming, extended rest hours, laidback activities and a sleep-out before being reassigned to new cabins for Aleph Sheni.
For campers entering 5th – 7th grades
June 30 – July 20
Bet campers experience everything Schechter has to offer in this exciting 3-week session. Campers enjoy a variety of daily activities, innovative evening programs, fine arts instruction, sports and so much more! Bet campers also enjoy an on-site overnight camping adventure.
For campers entering 8th – 10th grades
July 23 – August 12
This 3-week session brings the Schechter experience to a whole new level! The interactive and creative Judaic program allows Gimmel campers to ask questions and explore their own Jewish identity, while building their commitment to tikun olam (repairing the world) and tzedakah (charity). All Gimmel campers participate in an off-site camping trip.
For selected campers entering 11th – 12th grades
June 25 – August 3
This program involves an application process; not all applicants are accepted. “Oded” means to invigorate, and our highly acclaimed Counselor-in-Training and Leadership program is built to do just that. As part of a close-knit team, the Odedim live together in the Oded Village and spend a number of days on an extended outdoor adventure. The Oded program is truly a hands-on training program, as the participants plan programs, lead services, create an Oded Project, teach activities and share responsibility for a cabin of campers. As Odedim, these teens learn to look at leadership and life through a Jewish lens. Odedim will need to arrange their own transportation to and from camp.
