This Weekend: Celebrate Old Ballard Firehouse's 100th Anniversary at The Hi-Life
Looking for something fun to do with your family this weekend? The Old Ballard Firehouse #18 is celebrating its 100th anniversary this Saturday (Oct. 22) and The Hi-Life will be featuring some super-delicious events throughout the day for families.
The best part? All proceeds will go towards helping the Seattle's Bravest Charity in their mission to provide support to the community and entities within the Seattle Fire Department.
For the early birds:
From 8:30 a.m.-noon, there will be a fireman's pancake feed, including buttermilk pancakes, bacon, and scrambled eggs. The meal will be served family-style in honor of the firehouse and the many past meals that have been shared there by local firefighters. The hearty breakfast is only $10 for adults and $6 for kids, with all proceeds benefiting the Seattle's Bravest Charity. (Psst, "firehouse" Bloody Marys will also be available for Mom and Dad.)
Firefighter Chili Cook-Off:
From noon-5 p.m., five Seattle firefighters from Battalion #4 will be trading in their uniforms for their favorite aprons, and participating in a good old-fashioned chili cook-off. Three judges will be on hand to choose the day's winner and the official chili master will be announced at 5 p.m.
And what would a chili cook-off be without a whole mess of dishin' it up? From 5 p.m. until close, families are welcome to sit down for a bowl of their favorite cook-off chili with housemade cornbread and a green salad -- $12 for adults and $6 for kids. (The Hi-Life's full menu will also still be available for the chili-averse.)
Overall, a great opportunity to eat some delicious food with your little ones, help a fabulous local charity, and pay homage to this gorgeous historical Ballard building -- 100 years is most definitely worthy of a blowout bash (with fireman included)!
