Bug Kit Pick-Up — Honoring Margaret S. Collins

Calendar/Event Details

Margaret S. Collins was the first African American woman entomologist in the US. She completed bachelor's and master's degrees in biology, then entered the zoology program at the University of Chicago, graduating with a Ph.D in 1950. She held faculty positions and made large contributions to her field, earning the nickname "Termite Lady." In honor of Margaret S. Collins, pick up a bug kit and then venture out into your neighborhood, backyard, or nearby park to find, collect, and discover bugs in Auburn!

Each bug kit includes the following:

  • Bug jar and decorations
  • Bug net
  • Tongs
  • DIY Bug mask
  • Bug BINGO

Project can be picked up at curbside Tuesdays 4–6 p.m., Wednesdays 10 a.m.–noon or by appointment at the Auburn Community Center.
