It’s an animal of mystery and legend. An icon. And one of the coolest creatures in Puget Sound: the giant Pacific octopus. Celebrate President’s Day weekend and mid-winter break with this very special local celebrity.
Join us on a mission of discovery as we explore the mystery and lifestyle of this amazing undersea animal with daily octopus feedings and talks, plus hands-on activities. In addition, the following action-packed activities are highlights of Octopus Week:
- Live octopus release on Saturday, 2/15 at noon. Watch live video feed as our biologists escort one of our octopuses, to a new home in Puget Sound, just below the Aquarium’s pier. The following Saturday, 2/22 at noon, another octopus will be released. Divers will suit up in the Puget Sound Hall starting at 11:30am. Guests will be able to interact with the divers-learn about all the dive equipment and ask questions about the octopus as well!
- Divers swim with an octopus on 2/16 and 2/23 at noon in the Window on Washington Waters exhibit. Get a one-of-a-kind view of an octopus and learn amazing facts about this iconic Puget Sound animal.
- Octopus weigh-in on Wednesday, 2/19 at 1:30pm. How does one weigh a slippery, suckery, and boneless giant Pacific octopus? Come see for yourself at this demonstration during Octopus Week.
