Studio East Presents 'I Never Saw Another Butterfly'

Calendar/Event Details

Over 15,000 Jewish children passed through the Terezin Concentration Camp during WW2 between 1942 and 1944; less than 100 survived when Terezin was liberated. They left behind suitcases filled with poetry and artwork through which we can see not only the daily misery of these uprooted children, but also their courage, optimism and hope. Created out of the contents of those suitcases, I Never Saw Another Butterfly is a fictionalized account of a very real place, filled with very real children, and spoken for the most part, in their own words. One girl, Raja, lived through it all, teaching the children when there was nothing to teach with, helping to give them hope when there was little reason for hope. This play is her story. It is history as much as any play can be history, showing the best and the worst of which the human heart is capable.

Performing live in-person on the Studio East Mainstage in Kirkland.
