Live at Dog Mountain Farm and experience farm life. Each day girls participate in care and feeding of animals, preparing garden beds and planting the fields, working in the greenhouse planting and harvesting produce, milking goats, and collecting eggs. Campers will learn basic culinary skills while preparing meals from farm-fresh products, including baking bread and making cheese. Additional topics may include poultry butchering, sheep shearing, soap making and others. Campers reside in a platform tent and sleep on cots. Meals will be prepared and served in our outdoor kitchen.

Find a little bit of France in the San Juan Islands at one of the country’s premier French camps. Campers take part in a unique mix of French language and culture through artistic and outdoor activities. In addition to language experience, campers gain increased independence, self-awareness, new friends, and the ability to enjoy new experiences and food. Tipi-mates are arranged by age, French language class by ability, and the campers choose morning and afternoon activities themselves, including kayaking, sailing, swimming, art, archery, theater, sports, rock climbing, snorkeling, orienteering and cooking. A call to adventure beckons each of us toward an experience that extends beyond our level of comfort and current understanding. This backpacking program is a fun, exciting and significant first step on a Hero or Heroine's Journey. This camp begins with hiking along the mountain trails of beautiful Olympic National Park, where environmental stewardship is a focus of learning. Participants will also take part in wilderness cooking, trail safety and experience the joy of sleeping under the open sky. Under the guidance and encouragement of our experienced mentors, campers learn to cultivate a variety of interpersonal and wilderness skills, including leadership, responsibility and communication, in a challenging and supportive environment.

Lakeside Summer School offers Middle School Academic Camps for students entering grades 5 - 8. Campers spend their days actively engaged: two classes each day in a wide variety of areas will engage their brains and expand their curiosity. Class choices range from Farm to Market cooking and Recycled Sculpture, to Web Design, Dancing with the Stars, and Crime Scene Investigation. Day camps offered at Dog Mountain Farm, a small working farm with 10 acres of land. Each day campers learn about and experience different aspects of the farm, from animals to vegetables to bugs in the soil, as well as enjoy fun games and songs and time to reflect and enjoy the outdoors. Each week of camp has a theme with special activities--Nature Adventurers, Artists on the Farm, and Young Chefs.

Since the Bebop era that began in the 1940’s, jazz musicians have rivaled their classical counterparts in skill and virtuosity. Players venturing into the field of jazz and commercial music today need to have knowledge of many styles and a deep grasp of harmony. Advanced Jazz camp is for students who have already begun to explore the blues, modal and ii-V harmony and want to take it to the next level. Campers explore more advanced blues and other harmonic progressions and scales, a variety of styles including fusion, Latin, Brazilian, mixed meters, as well as listening to the great Jazz artists both present and past. We recommend that prior to camp, musicians be able to play and read at a 10th grade level, know all major and minor scales, and have some experience improvising with their school jazz ensemble, or other related experience. A final performance for family and friends is 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Life is good on the Olympic Coast. A land of seals and sunsets, eagles and sea stacks, everything seems richer, deeper and more fun on the beach. Packing up a bag with lots of tasty ingredients boys in this camp venture to this wonderland to hike, explore, tell stories and cook! During the trip campers will have a chance to lead the team for a day, learn to bake pizza and calzones and test limits as they work hard to reach each campsite. Boya are invited to explore the joys of music and cooking on this two-week odyssey. With a pack full of instruments and delicious ingredients, campers learn how to backpack in style. Some musical experience is helpful and a desire to learn how to hike and cook is necessary. Though much time will be spent jamming, cooking, and eating, participants should be prepared for some challenging hiking over the spine of the majestic Cascade Mountains that will be rewarded with beautiful campsites, natural concert halls and good eatin’.
