  • What Is a Trade?
    In India, billboards were all handpainted until recent technology developed and the paintings in this exhibit are handpainted like original billboard signs were in India. The sixteen large scale paintings take you through the development of trade and globalization in India from Vasco da Gama in 1498 to present day.

  • Dale Chihuly: The Laguna Murano Chandelier

  • Evergreen State Fair
    The Evergreen State Fair means that summer's almost over. Spend the last few days of vacation viewing animals and enjoying entertainment and carnival rides. There's continual entertainment on the family stage, plus pig races, contests, a petting farm and lots of other fun for kids. Opening day is Kids' Day -- all kids under 15 get in free. Another Kids' Day is scheduled for Aug. 28. Family Day is Aug. 27 ($25 admission).

  • Aki Matsuri
    The Eastside's large Japanese fall festival is the place to go for all things Japanese.Performing arts include taiko drumming, dance, puppet shows for kids, martial arts demonstrations, a screening of the anime movie Doraemon the Movie 2006: Nobita's Dinosaur (1:30 p.m. both days), crafts exhibits and demonstrations, and tea ceremonies. A family taiko workshop takes place on Saturday at 2 p.m. ($20, ages 5-7 with parent) and a youth workshop ($17, ages 8-15) is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. Preregister for both workshops by Aug. 31.
