PARENTMAP IS THE PROUD RECIPIENT OF 10 PARENTING PUBLICATIONS OF AMERICA AWARDS

ParentMap, a monthly newsmagazine for Seattle and Eastside parents, was honored with 10 awards for excellence in editorial and design last week during the annual Parenting Publications of America trade association conference in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The PPA represents over 120 publications throughout North America, Australia and Europe, and ParentMap received the most awards of any of the 91 publications that entered the contest. The entries were judged by a team of professors from the University of Missouri, one of the most prestigious journalism schools in the country.

“ParentMap is celebrating its second birthday in April, and this recognition is a hard-earned birthday gift,” noted Alayne Sulkin, editor and publisher. “We are proud to be recognized for the high-quality journalism that we provide to Seattle-area and Eastside families through our magazine each month.”

Some highlights of the judges’ comments include:

Calendar:

“This calendar is unique in its design. Once the reader catches on, it is a truly effective way to put together a calendar. The great color and art choices help to make it enticing.”

Web site: www.parentmap.com

“Kudos to this site. It’s a pleasure to use and to peruse. Well designed, well conceived, and well produced. No glitches, no hesitations for the viewer. Its Bonus Online articles and its advertising directory deserve special mention. Love its name, too. A must-be-bookmarked site for parents.  Easy-to-find information includes everything from parenting tips to a complete list of community activities.  The Family Directory includes hundreds of links to community resources.”

Overall Writing:

“The writing is consistently clear, with a consistent voice as well.  Story selection enhances attention to the writing because the topics are so interesting.  The “Dear Reader” column conveys just the right tone.”
