Can robots think? How do they know what to do? Campers this week will begin to answer these questions as they explore the world of robotics! Campers will spend the week learning to build and program robots to perform simple tasks using Lego kits and BeeBots.

Ropeworks’ jump rope camps are directed and run by World Jump Rope Champion and Cirque Du Soleil Artist Rene Bibaud. Boys and girls of all skill levels are invited to participate in our jump rope camps, which teach kids the following disciplines: single rope skills, partner routines, double Dutch, jumping long rope skills, group game choreography and more. Kids work together in a fun and rewarding environment of goal setting, best effort and team building. Play games, learn skills, develop new skills and stay fit in our fun-filled high energy program that really gets kids jumping! Camp culminates with a performance for friends and family.

SAM Campers will go back in time exploring art from the Pacific Northwest and across many continents! Time capsules, comics, futuristic portraits and dress-up are just part of the adventure! Includes a visit to the galleries at Seattle Art Museum Downtown. Drop-off and pick-up location for this camp is Olympic Sculpture Park.

Discover the insects and creatures living in the garden. Hone your urban tracking skills. Find creature habitats. Plant seeds and tend the garden. Keep a garden journal to track your discoveries. This theme-based weeklong day camp is a great way to have summer fun while learning about the fascinating world of the garden. Spend five days developing practical garden skills, exploring plants and discovering animals that live in Seattle Tilth's community learning gardens and Meridian Park. This camp is intended for those entering grades 1-4 in fall 2013.

If your teen or preteen loves gardening and working with younger students, this is for them! Junior Counselors help set-up and clean-up garden activities, assist Children's Garden staff, lead small group activities and learn more about organic gardening. Week-long placements offer all the fun of summer camp with the opportunity to develop leadership skills. Jr. Counselors come 30 minutes before campers arrive and stay 30 minutes after campers depart to help set-up and clean-up (these times are built into the listing below). Leadership training and orientation will be provided.

Serevi Rugby summer camps give aspiring and experienced youth rugby players the opportunity to learn, develop and test their running, passing, catching and kicking abilities through several skill based games and activities, scrimmages and a culminating "rugby skills combine." All activities will be age and ability appropriate. With an emphasis on safety, fun and being active, campers will "learn through doing" with our Serevi "certified" coaching staff. This fun, interactive, hands-on series is designed for kids in the kitchen, learning good food choices and great cooking skills for a lifetime. Chef Pam makes cooking fun. With picnic fare, campfire food, breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack foods, campers will learn it all. Topics include: Day 1: Top o' the Mornin, Breakfast — The most important meal of the day. Day 2: Earl of Sandwich — did you know that sandwiches were invented in England? Day 3: Campfire Grill — Gather round, sing a few songs, prepare and enjoy an alfresco lunch. Day 4: Summer Bake-Off — Great things from the Sizzleworks ovens--cakes, muffins, pastries too. Day 5: Picnic!! — Mix it up! Roll it up! Pack it up! Here we go!

Each week of camp the children work on developing their basic skills: somersaults, cartwheels, bridges, pivot turns, jumps, leaps, and much more. We will also be learning new skills with the Rhythmic gymnastics apparatus: jump rope, ball, hula hoop, and ribbon. Then all of these skills will be beautifully choreographed with music and dance to showcase at the end of the week. Additional week of camp available August 5-9.

At Mandarin Immersion Camp for K-2nd and 3rd-5th grades, we help campers build language and cultural competency while having lots of summer fun! Our camp leaders are great at making kids excited about language, culture and the world – and they happen to be native-speaking, experienced language teachers, too. Campers are grouped by language experience and ability where appropriate. Dragons, magic, and martial arts! Join us for a Mandarin language immersion adventure. We’ll travel across the ocean and learn about some magical characters from China. Campers will explore Chinese myths, festivals, and foods. We will tell stories about magical dragons, make boats for the Dragon Boat Festival and cook delicious dumplings!

Sponge presents: Summer Passport to Latin America – Spanish Immersion Camp for K-2 grade and 3-5th grade. Sponge helps campers build language and cultural competency while having lots of summer fun! Travel to different countries and explore food and cooking, art and culture of the Spanish-speaking world. From empanadas to guacamole, we’ll cook tasty treats, make piñatas, and play outdoor games like futbol!

Hit the trail with your favorite Tashunka horse. Trail Camp brings participants to regional parks to enjoy trail riding. Participants have a unique week of exploring, being outdoors, and being involved in hands on learning about horses, grooming, English or western riding, trail rides, and vet care. Activities include arts and crafts, games, hiking, nature studies, outdoor living, team-building, and much more. This session will be led by one staff person with a maximum of eight participants.

This class is for those eager to learn the basics and more on the potter’s wheel from professionals. We will provide you the license to drive this wheel! A concentrated class time on consecutive days will allow you to really dig in to clay. Centering, wedging, trimming, handles, and glazing all in the space of one week. If you know this already, OK! go further, lids, slip work, faceting on and on. You can sign up for either week or both. A dream come true? You are not dreaming, we look forward to seeing you here. Camp What's That in the Sky?: (new in 2013) The skies above us are full of many wondrous and amazing objects! From galaxies to stars to moons to satellites, this week campers will learn about the things they can see when they turn their gaze upward. They will also explore the various methods we use to see further and further into the cosmos.

Kids, bring a sack lunch and a sense of adventure! Each camp will consist of art, cooking, exploring, singing, dancing, and making new friends. Campers have the option to attend a drop-in camp on Friday or you may always choose to drop in for the day on other days ($40).

At our new Art of Nature Day Camp, participants will dive into a hands-on relationship with the world around them, working with materials and inspiration from nature to produce a varied items of creative expression! During this week of camp, your child will create some art to bring home as well as having the opportunity to experiment with site-specific sculpture and land art. This camp is ideal for those who have previously participated in our Nature Adventure Day Camps, but there are no prerequisites! Campers will work on a variety of art projects throughout the week; some projects will utilize materials from nature in the creation of art, such as natural plant dyes and tree-bark boxes, while other projects such as drawing or writing will be opportunities for expression of what participants see and experience in nature. This camp will include a variety of creative projects to choose from, activities designed to stimulate inspiration and basic instruction on some artistic principles, as well as new games and stories (along with some old favorites). Neither your standard art camp, nor the nature camp that you have done before – this is not merely a combination of the two, but a whole new experience that will bring out the beauty of both!

This camp focuses on using our senses to the fullest, as did the ancient “scouts” of many cultures who were able to travel for days without supplies. We will gain greater knowledge of edible plants as food and medicine; tracking as a means of gathering details of animals’ lives without ever seeing them; and “bird language” to allow us to move silently and become more aware of predators.

In this camp kids will experience yoga in a fun-loving environment while discovering more about themselves throughout their journey. Each day we will explore a blend of yoga and art designed to cultivate creativity, self-respect, respect for others and our planet. We will learn yoga poses, play games, create art, tell stories and most of all, have fun! Please pack a snack for your child as we will be taking a short snack break each day.

Reflections of Me: An introduction to art journaling using altered books. Participants will explore various mixed media techniques using altered books and inexpensive materials, while also learning methods to guide their journeys of self-exploration through creative expression. Dig into a full week of summer farm fun while learning about the  fascinating world of the garden. Learn practical garden skills, explore  plants and discover insects. Find out about vegetables, soil, and worms  while playing games, creating farm-inspired art projects, reading  stories, singing songs, and nature walks. Harvest fresh, farm produce to make snacks and quick meals.

Youth Venture Summer Camp will bring out the inner entrepreneur in your young person. During the week long camp, students learn about leadership, entrepreneurship and social justice issues, and then create their unique business approach to solve their chosen issue. Youth Venture will provide seed funding to the top teams up to $1000. Experienced staff support participants in creating a business plan, presenting a 5 minute culminating pitch, leadership skills and public speaking skills. Young people have the opportunity to team up with other participants to create a venture.

Puppet Palooza is a week of hands on exploration of a variety of puppet styles (sock, rod, hand/rod and shadow). Students will learn movement, focus, breath, personality and more. Recycled materials and found objects will become Junk Puppet characters. Students will create stories, rehearse, and perform. (Campers younger than age 7 may attend with an adult.)

Art projects include melted crayon art, tie dye t-shirt, paper mache critter, sun-sensitive paper design, and painted paper owl, mermaid or seascape.
