This camp will be a fun exploration of popular music for kids. Participants will be grouped according to their playing level and experience. Each group will rotate through different pods where they will learn contemporary, child-friendly songs on different instruments. Instruments will include piano, drums and guitar. Campers will learn about chords, sight-reading, ear training and ensemble playing. The campers will be able to play in “bands” where they will record a music video of the songs they work on throughout the camp. The camp will work on valuable music concepts as well as skills children can apply to other activities. The campers will learn the importance of working well with others, communicating effectively and helping one another understand new concepts. Every participant will need to pack a lunch each day. At Mandarin Immersion Camp for K-2nd and 3rd-5th grades, we help campers build language and cultural competency while having lots of summer fun! Our camp leaders are great at making kids excited about language, culture and the world – and they happen to be native-speaking, experienced language teachers, too. We’ll travel across the ocean and learn about some magical characters from China. Campers will explore Chinese myths, festivals, and foods. Wilderness Awareness School has partnered together with Oxbow Farm, and we are serving up something very special this summer! During this week of daily adventures your child will explore the edge where Farm and Forest meet. In addition to Wilderness Awareness School’s unique day camp experience learning about plants, mammals, tracking, birds and survival skills…we’re down on the farm! Kids will make their own sun tea, fresh fruit popsicles, and farm burritos. They will dig roots and pick fruits, save, sow, and snack on seeds. On the final day, we will harvest produce for an end-of-week Happy Camper Farmers Market! Each day we enjoy storytelling under the Maple Tree, as well as songs, crafts, and play surrounding food, farm and forest life. Camp is held at Oxbow Farm in the Snoqualmie Valley (about 15 minutes from Redmond). It is on a 120-acre property, with 20 acres of certified organic vegetables, berries and tree fruit in cultivation for the fresh market.

We have partnered with Chess4Life in Bellevue to offer campers a full day camp option. Chess4Life instructors make the game come to life through exciting lessons on strategy, tactics, and many other topics that open the world of chess to students. Play chess in the morning and learn to fence in the afternoon. Transportation to and from Chess4Life and RCFC is provided by Chess4Life. Level 1 fencing is for complete beginners to the sport of fencing. We will teach footwork, basic blade skills, and simple bouting techniques.

This camp focuses on using our senses to the fullest, as did the ancient “scouts” of many cultures who were able to travel for days without supplies. We will gain greater knowledge of edible plants as food and medicine; tracking as a means of gathering details of animals’ lives without ever seeing them; and “bird language” to allow us to move silently and become more aware of predators.

Puppet Palooza is a week of hands on exploration of a variety of puppet styles (sock, rod, hand/rod and shadow). Students will learn movement, focus, breath, personality and more. Recycled materials and found objects will become Junk Puppet characters. Students will create stories, rehearse, and perform. (Campers younger than age 7 may attend with an adult.)

Highland Ice Arena offers its Glide Ahead camp. This class is for any skater age 6 and up who is a beginner through Basic 3. Children ages 3-5 may participate if they can move on the ice on their own without being held. This one week intensive course will emphasize master of turn and edge skills, teamwork, a group skating program and fun. The class will learn a group number which they will perform for family and friends on Friday at 2:25 pm.

Experience the wonder of nature through the eyes of a dragonfly, the wings of a bird, the ears of a deer, and the feet of a fox. You’ll dip for bugs in our ponds, catch frogs in Sapsucker Creek, and search for snails and snakes in the meadow. Each day will be filled with exploration, activities, games, and art perfectly suited for the budding naturalist.

This camp is for any skater age 5 and up who has completed Basic 3. If you are unsure of your level, skaters must be tested at Highland Ice arena prior to admission to the class. Schedule your test with Mrs. Green. Are you ready to Jump Ahead to the next level in your ice skating? Here's the class for you! This one week intensive course will emphasize mastery of the upper levels of USFSA Basic Skills & Freestyle. Skaters will learn turn & edge skills, advanced stroking, teamwork, a group skating program and fun. The class will learn a group number which they will perform for family and friends on Friday at 3:25 pm. Skaters are encouraged to join our Skater Training Program after completing Jump Ahead. The camp also occurs July 22-26 and  August 5-9.
