Come create magical memories with us this summer as we design art, interact with domestic farm animals, splash in the pool, play camp games and meet other fellow budding artists! Have fun creating two arts and crafts projects per day while exploring many mediums including: tempera, acrylic, watercolor, oil and chalk pastels, charcoal, ink and more. Asia Pacific Language School offers elementary school children the opportunity to learn the Chinese Mandarin or Japanese language and culture while having fun. Our camp's morning program will focus on language study (conversational and writing skills) and cultural studies. In the afternoon, we will offer a variety of activities, including projects and arts to learn the Asian culture, going to parks for outdoor play, swimming, and field trips.

At this camp, each camper will have a whole chicken to de-bone. This chicken will be used to create a family meal that will be sent home at the end of the week. We will use every part of the chicken, making chicken sausage, wings for lunch, chicken breast parmesan for the take home dinner. The meal taken home on Friday will include: Chicken sausage bruschetta, local organic salad, Pappardelle pasta with tomato sauce, Chicken Parmesan, and fresh mini fruit pies.

Grab a rolling pin and put on an apron! We’re going to be sifting, whisking, kneading, mixing and measuring as we bake savory and sweet creations from scratch. You’ll learn skills from the basics of proper measuring and correct utensil use to cake creations, flay pie crusts, the basics of working with yeasted dough and much more!

This camp encompasses favorites that are typically inexpensive, uncomplicated, and easy to prepare. In addition to a brief sojourn into ethnic foods, this camp will focus on practical meals and homemade favorites. These dishes are particularly good for young people when they need to keep costs down. Your young chef will rub elbows with many professional chefs all week long becoming competent and proficient in the kitchen by actually practicing hands-on culinary skills with them for five hours a day! What if you could bring your favorite book to life?! With Book-It, you will dig into the juicy parts of a story - characters, setting, sequence, point of view - then take it apart and put it together again as a script you will act out on stage. You'll spend the week in teamwork with your peers exploring stories in a fun, physical way. Finally, your new "acting ensemble" will share your work in a final performance. Children enjoy playing in the lovely two-acre garden, picking berries, singing, and feeding the chickens and rabbit on this mini-farm in East Olympia. Camp is offered Mondays through Thursdays for the following weeks: July 9 through 11; July 15 through 18, July 29 through August 1; August 5 through 8; and August 12 through 15. Choose Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday & Thursday, or both, for one or all of the weeks listed. Children bring their own lunch; snack is provided.

How does a butterfly eat? Do snakes really dig holes? What’s a mountain beaver? How does an owl see at night? We’ll investigate these questions and more through experiments, exploration, games, stories, and art. Spend a week with one of our naturalists and you’ll leave with a whole new appreciation of the science behind the world around us and the creatures that inhabit it.

Believe it or not, scientists spend a lot of time outdoors. We’ll follow in their footsteps as we investigate the mysteries behind the world we live in and learn what makes it tick. Our creeks, ponds, wetlands, forests, meadows, and fully-stocked laboratory will be our classroom. You’ll get to meet some of the scientists behind the Brightwater Treatment plant and learn how Brightwater helps keep the Puget Sound clean. We’ll integrate games, art, and free exploration as well to round out the week and make sure that you’ll leave with a new understanding of what it means to “do science.”

This camp is for any skater age 5 and up who has completed Basic 3. If you are unsure of your level, skaters must be tested at Highland Ice arena prior to admission to the class. This one week intensive course will emphasize mastery of the upper levels of USFSA Basic Skills & Freestyle. Skaters will learn turn & edge skills, advanced stroking, teamwork, a group skating program and fun. The class will learn a group number which they will perform for family and friends on Friday at 3:25 pm. Skaters are encouraged to join our Skater Training Program after completing Jump Ahead. The camp also occurs July 22-26 and  August 5-9.

Story Tellers: People, Place, or Thing Narrate your own story and express it through comics, paintings, and flip motion books. Realize your characters, settings and props through contour line drawing of objects, figure model drawing of classmates, and miniature set building. Throughout time art has evoked a sense of story…. what is yours?

How did people reach for the skies before they had airplanes? From the giant man-lifting kites of the ancient Chinese to Montgolfiers’ balloon, campers will explore all the ways people explored the skies centuries before the Wright brothers were ever born.

Explore the wonderful world of insects at Lake Washington Girls Middle School. Together, we will delve into the world of insects through 3 dimensional art projects, scavenger hunts through our neighborhood, educational games and hands on dissections of a grasshopper. Seattle may have a lot of rain, but we also have lots of lakes and beaches to play in during the summer. In this two day camp, kids will make beach necessities, a swimsuit coverup and floppy beach hat. They will learn the basics of sewing on the machine as well as oodles of other sewing techniques. A small materials list will be emailed before class.

Our goal in camp is to have fun while learning the basics of modern Olympic sports fencing.

Seattle Drum School Rock Band Camp is an amazing experience for young musicians of any skill level! It's their chance to unlock their creative potential, acquire rehearsal skills, and learn cooperation and teamwork. The band members will work with a full time coach who will encourage them to build their own sound and even to compose their own songs if they're interested! The final performance, the Friday of camp at 1 p.m. in the L.A.B., is not to be missed by family, friends, neighbors, anyone who loves to see the unbelievable results of five days of collaboration and magic.

This camp will be a fun exploration of popular music for kids. Participants will be grouped according to their playing level and experience. Each group will rotate through different pods where they will learn contemporary, child-friendly songs on different instruments. Instruments will include piano, drums and guitar. Campers will learn about chords, sight-reading, ear training and ensemble playing. The campers will be able to play in “bands” where they will record a music video of the songs they work on throughout the camp. The camp will work on valuable music concepts as well as skills children can apply to other activities. The campers will learn the importance of working well with others, communicating effectively and helping one another understand new concepts. Every participant will need to pack a lunch each day. Ropeworks’ jump rope camps are directed and run by World Jump Rope Champion and Cirque Du Soleil Artist Rene Bibaud. Boys and girls of all skill levels are invited to participate in our jump rope camps, which teach kids the following disciplines: single rope skills, partner routines, double Dutch, jumping long rope skills, group game choreography and more. Kids work together in a fun and rewarding environment of goal setting, best effort and team building. Play games, learn skills, develop new skills and stay fit in our fun-filled high energy program that really gets kids jumping! Camp culminates with a performance for friends and family.

From The Ramones to Green Day, punk can be simple an complex at the same time. All Performance Camps run one week with a special performance at at a real rock venue on Friday early evening. Help! Prue’s little brother has been kidnapped by crows and flown into the Impassable Wilderness! Join the rescue mission this summer in this drama intensive. In three weeks we will explore the aspects of theater both on and off the stage, looking not only at character, but also setting, costumes and most importantly imagination.

At Mandarin Immersion Camp for K-2nd and 3rd-5th grades, we help campers build language and cultural competency while having lots of summer fun! Our camp leaders are great at making kids excited about language, culture and the world – and they happen to be native-speaking, experienced language teachers, too. Campers are grouped by language experience and ability where appropriate. Dragons, magic, and martial arts! Join us for a Mandarin language immersion adventure. Our Farm Day Camps are a great way to learn about all the great things that happen on a farm every day. Learn all about gardening, composting, recycling, cooking, water dynamics, and caring for all the various farm animals, chickens, goats, horses, and ponies. This class is for those eager to learn the basics and more on the potter’s wheel from professionals. We will provide you the license to drive this wheel! A concentrated class time on consecutive days will allow you to really dig in to clay. Centering, wedging, trimming, handles, and glazing all in the space of one week. Kids, bring a sack lunch and a sense of adventure! Each camp will consist of art, cooking, exploring, singing, dancing, and making new friends. Campers have the option to attend a drop-in camp on Friday or you may always choose to drop in for the day on other days ($40).

This camp expands on the experiences of our Nature Adventure Day Camps providing your camper with opportunities for more fun along with development of more focused wilderness skills. All campers will receive training and assessment in the safe use of knives, and will have opportunity during the week to use this skill with the attentive supervision of our staff. Other skills that your camper will have the opportunity to practice will include some (but not necessarily all) of the following; making fire with matches and with friction, safe and effective fire tending techniques, principles of shelter-building, identifying and harvesting wild edibles, open-fire cooking and stalking bullfrogs (catch-and-release only at this camp, no hunting). Projects might include making baskets for collecting wild food, candle making and hand-twisting cordage! Along with the focus on survival skills, your camper should be ready for some serious on-trail and off-trail exploration at our property in the foothills outside of Duvall. They may find themselves wading through the sword ferns gathering material for a shelter, crawling through a thicket to get at that perfect stick for a fire-making kit, or wading at the edge of our pond to gather cattail roots for a wild lunch. No matter what specific activities and adventures we have during a week of Survival Skills Day Camp, our goals remain the same -- that your child have fun, while learning about nature and themselves. At the end of a week with us, we hope that you see in your child increased self-confidence, as well as excitement about an assortment of new skills and stories of adventure.
