Adolescence can be a turbulent and trying time and most of our young people are launched into it with little consciousness and even less preparation. Becoming a Young Woman was created to help girls cross the bridge between childhood and youth in love and beauty. It will help them reach young womanhood with a deeper sense of themselves, their own inner and outer beauty and the gifts they bring to the world, so that they may walk through their teen years with strength and self-confidence. This group of 10 middle school girls will spend a week at a moon lodge on Bainbridge Island, engaging in a Rite of Passage experience to honor and celebrate the conscious step into young womanhood with a sweat bath ceremony, an 8-hour solo in the woods, and a ritual of welcoming to womanhood. Cougar Quest is a residential academic summer camp for highly capable students on the Washington State University campus in Pullman, Washington (75 miles south of Spokane, WA). The camp is designed to meet the educational and social needs of young college-bound students entering grades 7 through 12 in fall 2013. There are two weeks of camp, one to accommodate entering 7th through 9th graders and the second for entering 9th through 12th graders. Students entering 9th grade have the option of choosing one week, or attending both. For one exciting week high achieving students attend three rigorous workshops of their choosing. Most workshops are taught by Washington State University professors and are full of hands-on activities that are meant to challenge and keep the interest of students.

Ekone Ranch offers a one-of-a-kind camp program on 1060 acres of canyonlands, forests and meadows near the Columbia Gorge. Our residential, co-ed camp program features small groups of no more than 20 children per session and a 6:1 camper/staff ratio or better. Horse camp sessions emphasize the special relationship between children and horses. Campers spend many hours each day with our wonderful horses, grooming, learning groundwork, practicing in the arena, and going on long trail rides through spectacular country. We ride bareback and western. When not with the horses, campers are engaged in a variety of art projects, nature explorations, swimming, ranch activities and chores. Our garden-fresh, from-scratch food is a highlight of the camp experience (many a camper has learned to love their vegetables in the Yummy Tummy Cafe). This community-based three-week backpacking adventure will help your teen navigate the challenging road from childhood to adulthood. Your teen will have a chance to imagine how they want to be as adults, and then explore and practice what this means to them and their families, friends and communities. During three exciting weeks, teens develop a range of personal and interpersonal skills. A long backpacking trek lets them practice teamwork and wilderness skills. Solo time, journalling and nightly talking circles help them connect to and articulate their deeper thoughts and dreams.

Excite your young adventurer! Send you child along on a fun-filled introduction to wilderness and community. This Journeys is perfect for the first time camper or a young mountain trekker. Under the guidance and encouragement of our experienced staff and elders, participants will learn to cultivate a variety of interpersonal and wilderness skills. This happens in a challenging, yet supportive environment. As a result, children will come away with resources that will aid them in their day-to-day lives as they approach the mysteries of adolescence. This five night camp is focused on learning wilderness survival skills basics while practicing them daily at our school campus near Duvall. Campers will have opportunities to practice fire making, knife safety and carving, shelter construction and primitive cooking. They may choose to create their own fire kit, spoon, bowl or other similar craft to take home. Participants will also have the opportunity to sleep in shelters they have constructed from natural materials. They are sure to bring home amazing stories from this week with us! Survival Overnight Camp begins at 1 p.m. on Sunday and ends at 12 p.m. on Friday. Parents are encouraged to arrive at 11 a.m. on Friday. All youth overnight participants must return a signed Physician’s Medical Form upon registration. This is for the safety of our participants and our organization. Completion of this form will require a physical exam completed within one year of the course date, and an appointment with that physician for the form to be filled out. This backpacking program is a fun, exciting and significant first step on the Hero(ine)'s Journey. Leadership, responsibility, communication --- these are just some of the skills that are called forth and developed to bring a sense of community into practical tasks, in the sharing circles around the fire, and in the fun and joy of playing together. This camp adds to the skills and experience of our Survival Overnight Camp, and offers an in-depth first experience for older teens who have not participated in programs with us previously. We offer in this camp many opportunities to practice safe knife use, fire-making, primitive cooking, bullfrog hunting, basket-making and a variety of other skills, taking all of them to an advanced level that is appropriate to participants' age and experience. The village feel of this camp is notable, and participants of this camp connect with each other deeply through profound shared experience. Of the five nights, three will be spent in a natural shelter “village” created by the participants, where all will prepare food together and sleep in individual or group shelters. Join us for a fun family vacation this summer as you explore Olympic National Park’s biological diversity and ecosystems. During your week with us, you and your family will hike in the three major ecosystems in Olympic National Park – forest, subalpine, and marine. While discovering the national park you will have a chance to learn about what makes this place so unique from the wildflower-filled subalpine meadows to the magnificent tidepools. You’ll also have the opportunity to canoe, do yoga, enjoy a campfire, and of course relax on the shores of Lake Crescent. Tuition includes delicious meals in historic Rosemary Inn, lodging and all educational experiences.

Join our teen expedition to the wild backcountry of Idaho where we search for tracks and sign of the elusive wolf, and learn what the animals of the wilderness have to teach us. Explore the rivers, forests, and mountains guided by our most experienced instructors. The abundance of wildlife and vast wilderness of this region, combined with the commitment of Wilderness Awareness School instructors to fostering deep respect for and connection with the natural world provides for a truly incredible, and possibly life-changing, experience. The basic course is for beginning trackers, as well as returning students who love the variety of adventures to be had in the Idaho backcountry. The advanced course is for students returning to Idaho who are seeking a more focused study of wildlife tracking and the biology and ecology of wolves. Each course is limited to 16 participants! Le Monde Francophone! French camp for any level of fluency. Spend two weeks on beautiful Canoe Island, located in the San Juans. Polynesia, Africa, the Caribbean, North America, and Asia: explore other countries where French is spoken. Represent your chosen francophone country with your team as you compete in the Jeux de la Francophonie in your favorite sport and present your region in a World’s Fair of native foods, crafts, clothing, and games. Listen to Cajun music, try Vietnamese food, and paint your face like those in Vanuatu. This is the perfect session for those wanting more of an immersion experience.
