Poseidon, protector of the seas, is returning to see how humans have been caring for the oceans for the last thousand years. Find the hidden clues and follow them to reveal the Jewel Keeper. Only if you acquire the necessary knowledge will your team be rewarded with a Jewel of Light. Call Poseidon up from the depths and return to him the Jewels for safekeeping for the next millennium. Along the way you will encounter many challenges and surprises. Combine the strengths of your fellow adventurers to solve riddles and make decisions that will affect the outcome of your quest. Use science techniques like: - Test water for temperature and pH - Observe zooplankton and phytoplankton - Explore a living tide pool - Look for hidden aquatic pollutants - Learn how to use a map and compass.

Event Info: 425-788-1301 | Web siteSince 1995, our summer day camps have offered creative play, exploration and adventure, as children work together in small groups gaining nature awareness and experiential knowledge of plants, mammals, tracking, birds and survival skills. Our highly trained instructors guide students into experiences that nurture their connection to the earth and allow them to feel at home in nature. Fun and adventure are only part of the story. Our 1:8 staff-student ratio allows our instructors at our summer day camps to facilitate the development of tangible and intangible skills like teamwork and communication; thankfulness; awareness; patience; common sense; self confidence; problem-solving; and respect for self, each other and nature. These skills are woven invisibly into each of our summer day camps through storytelling, active questioning and engaging nature activities. For example, campers might learn patience through the need to get close to wildlife, or teamwork and communication through the need to quickly build a group shelter. Our focus is on helping children to build skills that will serve them for a lifetime. Camps take place in Bellevue, Kirkland, Seattle and Carnation. See website for camp schedule.

We also have volunteer opportunities for high school students (entering 10th - 12th grade) through our Junior Naturalist in Training Program. Teens learn the skills of a naturalist and help teach campers about the environment while getting community service hours. Spend five days developing practical garden skills, exploring plants and discovering animals that live in Seattle Tilth's community learning gardens and Meridian Park. This camp is intended for those entering grades 1-4 in fall 2013.

Junior Counselors help set-up and clean-up garden activities, assist Children's Garden staff, lead small group activities and learn more about organic gardening. Week-long placements offer all the fun of summer camp with the opportunity to develop leadership skills. Jr. Counselors come 30 minutes before campers arrive and stay 30 minutes after campers depart to help set-up and clean-up (these times are built into the listing below).
