Design Thinking Camp at Lake Washington Girls Middle School uses academic and artistic concepts side by side, to create a stimulating, project-based curriculum. Spend a week learning about concepts such as symmetry, balance, and form that are found naturally in both art and math. Use different art materials and mediums to reinforce these concepts with building and sculpture! At LWGMS we use "design thinking" strategies, such as prototyping, data analysis, and creative problem-solving to create artistic and engineering masterpieces. STEAM Camp is an exciting and hands-on learning opportunity for young people with a special emphasis on the STEAM curriculum areas (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics). As educators, we must provide educational opportunities that endeavor to integrate the arts, sciences, and technology for this to happen. LWGMS already embraces this educational model, and is currently in the process of developing curriculum for our students that is cutting edge, and that integrates the arts into the STEM model: STEAM. STEAM design classes incorporate problem-solving, creativity, collaboration, presentation, prototyping, and response to critique (resilience). Do you know a fashionista designer full of ideas and looking for a place to use them? Send them to Made to learn the fundamentals of fashion design, color, sewing techniques, and fashion illustration. We will work with the designers to create a clothing line based on a central theme of their preference, and then they will sew one of their designs to take home. This is a 3 day camp.

Ropeworks’ jump rope camps are directed and run by World Jump Rope Champion and Cirque Du Soleil Artist Rene Bibaud. Boys and girls of all skill levels are invited to participate in our jump rope camps, which teach kids the following disciplines: single rope skills, partner routines, double Dutch, jumping long rope skills, group game choreography and more. Kids work together in a fun and rewarding environment of goal setting, best effort and team building. Play games, learn skills, develop new skills and stay fit in our fun-filled high energy program that really gets kids jumping! Camp culminates with a performance for friends and family.

Oh, Canada! There have been some incredible artists whose music has migrated down from cold Canadian lands. There must be something in the air up there! Students will spend the week learning tunes from Neil Young, Arcade Fire, The Band, and maybe even a little Bachman-Turner Overdrive. There is no shortage of Canadian talent! All Performance Camps run one week with a special performance at a real rock venue on Friday early evening. For Students 8-18, some experience required.

This theme-based weeklong day camp is a great way to have summer fun while learning about the fascinating world of the garden. Spend five days developing practical garden skills, exploring plants and discovering animals that live in Seattle Tilth's community learning gardens and Meridian Park. This camp is intended for campers entering grades 1-4 in fall 2013.

If your teen or preteen loves gardening and working with younger students, this is for them! Junior Counselors help set-up and clean-up garden activities, assist Children's Garden staff, lead small group activities and learn more about organic gardening. Week-long placements offer all the fun of summer camp with the opportunity to develop leadership skills. Jr. Counselors come 30 minutes before campers arrive and stay 30 minutes after campers depart to help set-up and clean-up (these times are built into the listing below). Leadership training and orientation will be provided.

Serevi Rugby summer camps give aspiring and experienced youth rugby players the opportunity to learn, develop and test their running, passing, catching and kicking abilities through several skill based games and activities, scrimmages and a culminating "rugby skills combine." All activities will be age and ability appropriate. With an emphasis on safety, fun and being active, campers will "learn through doing" with our Serevi "certified" coaching staff. Teens at Sizzleworks will explore the world of cuisine with Chef Pam with favorite ethnic foods from Italy, France, Mexico ... and USA! Topics include: Day 1: Pronto pasta, fave foods, foccaccia and fun! Day 2: That's a Wrap, Asian-style! Roll, wrap, dip, eat. Day 3: Breakfast at Tiffany's — No matter what time of day, breakfast can hit the spot! Day 4: Ole! Mexican Buffet Day. 5: Pizza al Fresco — Italians love to cook and eat outdoors — let's adopt that culture.

Led by trained high school teen volunteers, this three day fun filled camp highlights arts and crafts, cooking, sports, nature, special events and more! Campers have a fun-filled week of being involved with the many animals at our new Redmond facility, and taking part in hands-on learning about horses, grooming, English or western riding, horse shows or trail rides, and vet care. Activities can include arts and crafts, farming, field trips, games, hiking, pony rides, nature studies, outdoor living, team-building, and much more. Camp will be led by one staff person with a maximum of eight participants.

Camp Making Machines: (new in 2013) This week campers will learn to build simple machines using Lego Simple Machine kits. They will also explore how machines can be programmed to perform certain tasks using BeeBots.

Wilderness Awareness School has partnered together with Oxbow Farm, and we are serving up something very special this summer! During this week of daily adventures your child will explore the edge where Farm and Forest meet. In addition to Wilderness Awareness School’s unique day camp experience learning about plants, mammals, tracking, birds and survival skills…we’re down on the farm! Kids will make their own sun tea, fresh fruit popsicles, and farm burritos. They will dig roots and pick fruits, save, sow, and snack on seeds. On the final day, we will harvest produce for an end-of-week Happy Camper Farmers Market! Each day we enjoy storytelling under the Maple Tree, as well as songs, crafts, and play surrounding food, farm and forest life. Camp is held at Oxbow Farm in the Snoqualmie Valley (about 15 minutes from Redmond). It is on a 120-acre property, with 20 acres of certified organic vegetables, berries and tree fruit in cultivation for the fresh market.

Les Chevaliers! French camp for any level of fluency. Spend two weeks on beautiful Canoe Island, located in the San Juans. Celebrate chivalry, knights, kings, and queens from les Chevaliers de la Table Ronde to the Middle Ages. Learn to fence, become Lancelot or Guinevere in theatrical productions, and practice archery and traditional arts and crafts. Use a trébuchet, and compete in the ring jousting course with your team. Work toward knighthood through acts of chivalry and end with a Medieval Feast.

China is a truly mouthwatering destination for any photographer. China’s cities are host to a colorful array of people and activity set against a back drop of sharp contrast where ancient streets and old traditions mix with modern skyscrapers and the latest technology. Despite the rapid pace of modernization throughout much of China, on this Global Family Travels tour, you will experience a land of ancient wonders as you walk along the famous Great Wall, explore remarkable archaeological sites, and visit remote villages where the old customs are still observed. This five night camp is focused on learning wilderness survival skills basics while practicing them daily at our school campus near Duvall. Campers will have opportunities to practice fire making, knife safety and carving, shelter construction and primitive cooking. They may choose to create their own fire kit, spoon, bowl or other similar craft to take home. Participants will also have the opportunity to sleep in shelters they have constructed from natural materials. They are sure to bring home amazing stories from this week with us! Survival Overnight Camp begins at 1 p.m. on Sunday and ends at 12 p.m. on Friday. Parents are encouraged to arrive at 11 a.m. on Friday. All youth overnight participants must return a signed Physician’s Medical Form upon registration. This is for the safety of our participants and our organization. Completion of this form will require a physical exam completed within one year of the course date, and an appointment with that physician for the form to be filled out. At this camp, each camper will have a whole chicken to de-bone. This chicken will be used to create a family meal that will be sent home at the end of the week. We will use every part of the chicken, making chicken sausage, wings for lunch, chicken breast parmesan for the take home dinner. According to some legends told by the pyramid builders of Meso-America, a magical place called Aztlan was believed to be their homeland. The stories speak of a place far to the north, with an unimaginable bounty of food and water. Archaeologists have never been able to figure out where this magical kingdom lies. The myths also tell of a secret hieroglyph that shows the way to Aztlan. Can you crack the code and find the lost glyph? Could the lost city be here in the Puget Sound region? Search the forests, marshes, meadows and shorelines for clues to the location of the lost glyph. In this class we will make this super cute tunic dress/tunic for both girl and doll. We will go over sewing basics as well as how to cut out and read a sewing pattern. Come join Seattle's Littlest Performers for a fun-filled summer of singing, dancing and drama! This session will be based around the funny and adorable sequel to The Gruffalo. A little Gruffalo ignores her father's warnings and tiptoes out into the snow in search of the Big Bad Mouse. Children will learn how to walk and express different mannerisms of the different animals in the story.
