Hops and dreams
Terror in the bogs, as Snohomish rounds up contenders for its annual frog-jumping contest (Saturday, noon). Sure, that's a hoppin' event, but there is much, much more to Kla Ha Ya Days! Check out the bike rodeo (Thursday 1 p.m.), carnival, and kids' parade (Thursday 4 p.m. from Pilchuck Park), then impress bystanders by knowing what "Kla Ha Ya" is (thanks, Google!). Here's the schedule. Most events are free, but there's a charge for carnival rides.  July 17-20: Thursday 2 p.m.-sunset, Friday 11 a.m.-10 p.m., Saturday 8:30 a.m.-8 p.m., Sunday 10 a.m.-8 p.m.

SAM I am
...coming to your birthday party, that is! Celebrate 75 years of culture, art, and disappearing-ear coffee mugs with a commemorative ceremony at noon, birthday cake, art activities for the kids (and adults), exhibits, and events: 10 a.m., Shumba Youth Marimba Ensemble; 11 a.m., balloon art on the front lawn; 11:30 a.m., traditional Chinese lion dance; 12:30 p.m., juggling on the front lawn. Free. All ages. Seattle Asian Art Museum, 1400 E. Prospect St., Volunteer Park, Seattle. 206-654-3100. Saturday, July 19, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

Tappy feet
The feets, they will be flying at Dance This! It's the annual teen performance showcase of young dancers performing exhilarating numbers from several genres. This year's performers include the Apna Bhangra Crew, NW Tap Connection, Rainier Vista Cambodia Youth Program, Seattle Chinese Girls Drill Team, and Vela Luka Croatian Dance Ensemble. $23. All ages. The Moore Theatre, 1932 Second Ave., Seattle. 206-467-5510. Saturday, July 19, 7:30 p.m.

Trail spin
A sunny day, a pack o'kids, a lovely lake...it's TrailsFest, the annual outdoor extravaganza dedicated to getting you trail-ready. It features clinics on everything from wilderness first aid to hiking with kids to back country cooking. Take a family walk (11 a.m.), tie a fly on, or climb a rock wall. Try out a new s’mores recipe, or hang out with pack goats on a family hike (1 p.m.). At 2 p.m. there's a four-mile round trip hike to Rattlesnake Ledge, and at 3 p.m., there's a "Hiking with Kids" clinic. Check out the full schedule. To get to TrailsFest, take I-90 to exit 32 in North Bend, then turn right on 436th Avenue Southeast. Follow this road 2.7 miles to Rattlesnake Lake. Free. All ages. 206-625-1367. Saturday, July 19, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Fowl play
I'm sorry, I just had to. But Artemis Fowl brings out the geek in me. And now the brilliant author of this phenomenally fabulous series, Eoin Colfer, is hitting town to hawk his new AF book, The Time Paradox. Featuring lemurs! The appearance is sponsored by University Bookstore, and you need to buy a book from the store to stand in the signing line. Free. Tween and teen readers. Town Hall Seattle, 1119 Eighth Ave., Seattle. 206-634-3400. Saturday, July 19, 6 p.m.

Chinese dragon alert!
Try to resist that stupid grin you get when the 100-foot Chinese dragon goes by! It's thrilling, is what it is: Chinatown's annual community parade, featuring precise, colorfully dressed Chinese drill teams, 80 parade units and that big ol' Chinese dragon. The parade starts at 10th Avenue South, between South Jackson and South King streets, in Seattle. Free. All ages. Sunday, July 20, 7 p.m.
