Excursions + diversions

It's Simple!
First, balance on the top rung of a ladder. Next, balance another guy - upside down - on your head. Now...juggle! It's just another day at work for the Golden Dragon Acrobats - a troop of fabulously talented (and flexible) traditional Chinese acrobats from Hebei, China. They've played all over the world, including Lincoln Center and Caesar's Palace - now, they're coming to Edmonds! Check out their cool Web site. $17-$34 (and tickets are going fast, so call right away if you're interested). Ages 5 and up. Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 Fourth Ave. N., Edmonds. 425-275-9595. Wednesday, March 12 and Thursday, March 13, 7:30 p.m.

Grumpy Ol' Bear
Bear does not like visitors. Much like you in the morning, he wants to be left alone in his lair. But mouse doesn't listen! Enjoy the story of the furry mega-grump, A Visitor for Bear, read by author Bonnie Becker. Free. Preschooler and younger. ParkPlace Books, 348 Parkplace Center, Kirkland. 425-828-6546. Friday, March 14, 10 a.m.

Parade o'Paddy
Sure, and you'll want to be marching? You don't need a drop of Irish in you to join the St. Patrick's Day Parade in downtown Seattle. No need to register (unless you're part of a marching group) -- just show up at the parade start at Fourth Avenue at Jefferson. The parade travels north on Fourth to Westlake Center and on to the Seattle Center -- where there will be two days of Irish festivities. Saturday, March 15, 12:30 p.m.

Pancakes, puppets...and pigs?
It's a rare event that combines these three kid pleasers: a flapjack breakfast, a performance by "Puppets Please Marionettes," and live farm animals! Plus, a visit by The Bunny. Register in advance -- the Hop Into Spring breakfast fills up! Members $12, non-members $20. All ages. Imagine Children's Museum, 1502 Wall St., Everett. 425-258-1006, Ext. 1014. Saturday, March 15, 8:30-10 a.m.

Seasoned Lowry
She's written more than 30 books for kids, including Newbery award-winners Number the Stars and The Giver. Lois Lowry will talk about her life and work and read from and discuss her latest book, The Willoughbys (I'm reading it now -- it's like the Addams Family meets Lemony Snickett). Afterward, kids can participate in a Q&A, get a book signed and maybe even win some prizes. $18, under 25 $9. Fourth-graders and up. 206-652-4255. Town Hall Seattle, 1119 Eighth Ave., Seattle. Saturday, March 15, 1 p.m.

Little Women
Don't worry -- Winona Ryder won't be anywhere near this musical production of Louisa May Alcott's beloved story! The March girls -- tomboy Jo, practical Meg, bratty Amy and foofy Beth -- and their mother struggle together to survive while Father is off at war. With a score by Richard Rodgers. $20-$55. Elementary age and up. The Village Theater, 303 Front St. N., Issaquah. 425-392-2202. Wednesday, March 19, 8 p.m. through April 27.
