Excursions + diversions

Tyke Skygawkers
Grab Chewie and R2 and take a little star tour right here in Seattle. The dome at the Theodor Jacobsen Observatory is open -- weather permitting -- for you to take a peek through the University of Washington's 110-year-old telescope. Kids can do star crafts (make a star finder!) and learn how to spot constellations and use a telescope. Click on the link for directions and more info. Free. All ages. First and third Wednesdays, Mar. 5 - Mar. 19, 7 p.m.

Circus Peeks
Let 'em make good on their threat to run away with the circus - at least for an evening! Kids from the super-cool circus school, The School of Acrobatics and New Circus Arts, will perform, and you will have the rare but always welcome chance to be a giant goofball and learn a few tricks yourself, including juggling and tightwire walking. Open until 9 p.m. Free with admission; members free. All ages. Imagine Children's Museum, 1502 Wall St., Everett. 425-258-1006. Friday, Mar. 7, until 9 p.m.

Princess Pauper
Life is like that. One day, you're a rich girl, the next, you're a servant living in a drafty attic. How do you cope? Why, by singing, of course! The always fab Youth Theatre Northwest presents the musical A Little Princess. $13; $15 opening night (March 7). All ages. Youth Theatre Northwest, 8805 S.E. 40th St., Mercer Island. 206-232-4145, Ext. 109. Fridays, 7 p.m.; Saturdays, 2 and 7 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m.

Cinderella Storytella
You think you've got weird relatives? Cindy's stepsisters make your clan look like the Waltons! Give the grommets a giggle at SPROUTS' adaptation of the fairy tale, featuring music and lots of silly fun. Kids under 3 aren't admitted except to the Small Sibling Sunday shows, the first two Sundays at 1 p.m. $8.75. Ages 4 and up. SecondStory Repertory, 16587 N.E. 74th St., Redmond. 425-881-6777, Fridays 7 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays 1 p.m., 3 p.m.

Primate Fete
Release your inner howler monkey - and get a crack at recording a CD. No, it's not Orangutan Idol! It's Seattle's own band Recess Monkey. Do we like this band? Yes. Yes, we do. Catch a live concert and get the chance to sing along on their upcoming CD, Tabby Road. Twenty bucks gets your family in the door and an advance copy of the new CD. University Child Development Center, 5062 Ninth Ave. N.E., Seattle. Ages 3 and up. Saturday, Mar. 8, 11 a.m.

A Good Egg
Paint three ceramic eggs, enjoy a snack and meet with the bunny. It's not just good fun, it's good for some special kids. Proceeds from the day will go to Camp Erin, a bereavement camp for kids sponsored by The Moyer Foundation. Adult/child pair $30. Ages 3 and up. Kids 'N' Clay Pottery Studio, 19125 33rd Ave. W., Lynnwood. Register at lynnwood@kidsnclay.com or 425-673-2529. Saturday, Mar. 8, 10-11:30 a.m., noon-1:30 p.m. or 2-3:30 p.m.
