Nice doggy
Dispel the myths about a much-maligned critter at a Wolf Haven Howl-in this month, and learn about its unique role in the wild. Do they really eat little pigs and girls in red capes? 'Course not! The evening programs include an abbreviated tour of the 80-acre wolf sanctuary, entertainment, and arts 'n' crafts and stories (probably not Little Red Riding Hood) for the kiddos. If you want to extend the adventure, camp overnight on the grounds ($25, reservations required) and toast marshmallows over a campfire before you turn in. Well, here's where I'll be taking the kids this Sunday: the Kitsap Forest Theater, one of the oldest outdoor theaters in the U.S. The Mountaineer Players' summer show -- High Button Shoes - is a musical comedy set in the Model T era. The trail opens at 1 p.m., and you'll have a steep quarter-mile hike down to the amphitheater. Dress for comfort and for the weather.
