Slammin' jam
Teens: Channel that crazed energy into something that can win you cash and prizes! It's the "Go Green” Teen Poetry Slam. Come up with your own original environmental poem and recite (or read) it for the judges and an audience. (Hint: "Give a hoot - don't pollute" has already been done.) Not the underwear kind, silly; it's the Wedgwood Art Festival - a great place to take kids this Saturday. It includes a performance by Thistle Theater and five art activity stations for children, plus truly cool art and crafts by local artists on display and for sale. Ever wish you could fly? Here's your chance to "become" a bat without looking like a weirdo (more than usual, I mean!). The Urban Bat Peninsula Guided Nature Walk includes games and interpretive talks that teach batty survival skillz, like what to eat (insects: nom!), where and when to sleep, and when and where to hide. This hike has a difficulty level of "moderate" and will be 1.5 -2 miles long. $2-$4, under 5 free. Ages 4 and older. Take a few fairy tales and put 'em in a blender. Puree. Voila! Now you have Open Circle Theatre's newest show, Who's Afraid of the Big, Bad Wolf? -- a story (written by a local playwright) about a slightly out-of-control wolf who takes the narrator on a heck of a ride through various fairy tales.
