Blue in the face!
See 'em, hear 'em, smell 'em (just don't taste 'em!) - the world-famous U.S. Navy Blue Angels are wingin' it big time for Seafair, and they'll be hanging out at the Museum of Flight. Museum visitors will get to see the jets up close, watch the team’s precise pre-flight walkdowns, thrilling formation takeoffs and have the chance to meet some of the Navy’s finest pilots. Indoors, stop by the museum’s activity area to make fabulous Blue Angels souvenirs and join a Blue Angels scavenger hunt (daily, noon-3 p.m.) Air show all ages. Workshop, pre-K through mid-elementary ages. Scavenger hunt, elementary age. Outdoor events free; indoor events free with admission. The Museum of Flight, 9404 E. Marginal Way S., Seattle. Blue Angels practices: Thursday, July 30, 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m.; Friday, July 31, 1:30-2:30 p.m. Blue Angels return from air show: Saturday, Aug. 1 and Sunday, Aug. 2, 2:30 p.m. Extended museum hours: Thursday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.

Pig deal
Preschool-perfect theater -- with a little humor just for adults! StoryBook Theater is a great way to get little ones into live theater without losing your mind. Their wacky interactive takes on classic fairy tales are witty, wise and always entertaining. This weekend, a special repeat performance of 3 Pigs! The wolf goes on the hunt for some succulent pork, so the shakin' bacons start makin' sturdy, tooth-proof homes for protection! Tickets are available at the door, but arrive early as these shows sell out quickly. $9. Ages 3-10. Kirkland Performance Center, 350 Kirkland Ave., Kirkland. Saturday, Aug. 1 and Sunday, Aug. 2, 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.

Blues, part deux
Now these blues, you can taste! Celebrate the blueberry season at Bryant Blueberry Farm's festival with berry-picking, pony rides, a barbecue lunch, music and a raffle! Pony rides for kids begin at noon for $1 if purchased separately, or free with lunch purchase. Free admission. All ages. 5628 Grandview Road, Arlington. Saturday, Aug. 1, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Bregar-ular guy

Here at ParentMap World Headquarters (air conditioned!), we love Johnny Bregar -- a Ballard dad who records kickin' music for kids! Catch him in a too-rare live appearance this weekend as he lays down a set of sweet originals and rootsy classics in celebration of the latest Putumayo Kids CD, Picnic Playground. Free with zoo admission: $11-$16.50, ages 2 and under free. All ages. Woodland Park Zoo's north meadow, Seattle. Saturday, Aug. 1, 1 p.m.

Cupcake monkeys
See what happens when you let a bunch of monkeys loose in a book store -- with cupcakes! Recess Monkey is playing live at Alphabet Soup Children's Books, singing songs from their new release, Field Trip, among others. Snacks provided by Trophy Cupcakes. Free. Taiko alert!
Any newsletter with Taiko in it is aces in my book. This week, catch One World Taiko - free! - a professional Japanese drum ensemble in an outdoor performance that incorporates dynamic movement, lyrical melodies and rhythmic grooves with heart- pounding percussion. Kris sez "do not miss" this funtacular at the North Cascades Institute! Join a naturalist for for a slow-paced forest hike -- or take a two-hour paddle in a big canoe on gorgeous emerald-green Diablo Lake (kids must be over 6 years old). Bring food, water, appropriate clothing and other gear. No preregistration required, but all activities are first-come, first-served; sign-ups at 8:30 a.m. Free.
