Too much fun, this. The Fremont Players' raucuous fairy tale panto (Little Red Riding Hood and The 3 Little Pigs make an appearance) involves obvious cross-dressing, shameless
heckling and a general atmosphere of merry good fun. And parents: It's held at Hale's Palladium, so bring beer money. Through Jan. 2: Saturdays 4, 7 p.m.; Sundays 1, 4 p.m.  Welcome the advent of longer days with songs and stories about the earth at Carkeek Park's Winter Solstice Celebration. Refreshments provided! This is the last family program offered by Parks Department staff at the Environmental Learning Center, which is closing due to budget cuts.
Sadface. Saturday, Dec. 18, 1-3 p.m. Join a naturalist for a jaunt around Seward Park -- in a haywagon! Wonder at the old growth, find out what's doing at the park in winter, and celebrate the beginning of winter. Saturday, Dec. 18, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Spend part of winter break watching zoo critters tear into holiday-themed treats, including boughs, wrapped boxes and fruity wreaths. My vote for the most fun watching goes to the meerkats (Dec. 28) -- check the zoo's website for the daily nom schedule. Dec. 20-29: Mondays-Wednesdays 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
The children's museum hosts a holiday bash -- a North Pole party, to be exact -- that includes carpet skating, ornament making, a visit by Santa (11:30 a.m.-3 p.m.), story time and more polar-themed fun! Monday, Dec. 20, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. PJs are optional but fun at KidsQuest Children's Museum's screening of Toy Story. Head over at 6 for a 6:30 p.m. showing, and plan to hang out after the movie to play in the exhibits. Wednesday, Dec. 22, 6-9 p.m. |
