GETTING SCHOOL READY
Dreamy

Tips from ParentMap education reporter Linda Morgan's upcoming book, "Beyond Smart: Boosting your Child's Academic, Social, and Emotional Potential."

He's so dreamy!

It's not easy to be young and in love; ask a tween girl. Most likely, while she's obsessing over a boy in her class, he’s more interested in who'll be playing basketball with him after school.

How can you stay clued into your child’s first crush? Here are some tips:

  • Keep your eye on your child’s computer use.
  • Watch for red flags, such as a sudden drop in grades or obsession with seeing a friend.
  • Watch for behavioral changes such as extreme secretiveness.
  • Be more open about your own first relationships.
  • Be available to talk to your child, not lecture.
