Favorite family photographer

Winner: Kiley Riffell Photography

Forget the department store photography studio, Puget Sound families want truly memorable portraits. That’s why you voted Kiley Riffell Photography, a photojournalist whose work has been used by BBC Nature, National Public Radio and Science magazine, as your favorite family photographer. Riffell’s standard session costs $475 and includes at least 40 digital images with your printed photographs. One mom says, “Kiley is so talented and fun to be around. She managed to really capture my children’s personalities through the pictures.” Book early — especially for those time-sensitive maternity photos — to guarantee an appointment with this popular photographer.

Finalists

The hometown artist behind Malory Larson Photography is all about capturing milestones and making personal connections. The photos in her online gallery are largely taken outdoors and capture a love of the Northwest as much as a family’s love. One reviewer said, “I love that she’s a mom, too, and knows how to take care of the little ones she shoots. It really makes a difference in the whole experience! The pics were of course beautiful, but the whole process was enjoyable as well. Did I mention she’s affordable, too?”

TYN Photography, based in Kirkland, is another one-woman show, proving that families like working personally with a photographer better than buying packages from a big studio. One happy customer said, “I love working with Tania because not only is she talented, she is very fast at capturing the moments, and that is key with a toddler. We love all our pictures, and they are all so natural.” Another enthused, “Best photographer ever!!!”

For photographer Mandi of A Moment’s Focus Photography, a photo session is not just about creating a product. The name says it all — photography is about time, both the lived moments created during the photoshoot experience and the moments captured and preserved on film. Of course beautiful portraits are produced, but Mandi also wants her subjects “to walk away from your session with incredible memories and new found love for yourself and loved ones.”

For Shubha Tirumale, motherhood was the impetus for becoming a professional photographer. Her desire to hang on to the precious moments that pass too quickly naturally translates to a specialization in family portraits for Shubha Tirumale Photography. Eastside families appreciate Shubha’s maternal approach and her skill in capturing “love, joy, laughter and special memories.” Shubha is based in Issaquah, but will arrange sessions further afield for a fee.
