Brilliant Blocks

We suspect you’ll be pulling this little treasure out of the ornament box for years to come.

Ana over at Babble Dabble Do has shared the full tutorial for her family’s holiday homemade wood block ornaments.  To get started, pick up some wooden blocks from your favorite local craft store, decorative tape, glitter, glue and paint. Let your kids craft their own unique designs and then hang on the tree or give them away as a special family gift.

Head to the site for kid-friendly step-by-step instructions and great photos.

Baker’s Delight

This clever baker’s twine ornament idea from About Family Crafts not only looks really cool — you probably have some of the materials laying around the house!

To make your own, you’ll need a small balloon, a jingle bell, baker’s twine and liquid starch. Mom Sherri said it can be tricky getting the bell into the balloon, so an adult may need to lend a helping hand to the little ones. Check out the post to make one of your own and add a little jingle to your tree this year.

Let It Snow!

These DIY ornaments from Design Improvised will add just the right amount of “fresh fallen snow” to your holiday tree.

Inspired to bring a snowy element to her family’s first winter without the white stuff, mom Haeley came up with these simple yet classy globes that add a touch more sparkle to your holiday decorations. Easy enough for tots of all ages, all you’ll need are clear ornament bulbs and white polyester fill. Simple as that! Head to the post for tips on how to get the little ones in on the fun.

Baby’s First Ornament

This classic holiday ornament from Everything Emily combines the fun of crafting and baking to create the perfect keepsake for your tot’s first Christmas.

Simple baking ingredients, your little one’s handprint and any embellishment you may want to add — mom Emily used glitter — is all you need to make this precious addition to your collection of special family ornaments.

Check out the full post for a list of ingredients, tips and a fabulous pictorial.

Splendid Silhouette

The folks over at Rust & Sunshine have a plethora of easy and creative Christmas decoration ideas (see them all here), but this dreamy little design using your child’s silhouette especially caught our eye.

Can’t get your squirmy little one to sit still long enough to take a good silhouette photo? Have no fear! Mom Michelle has a brilliant (and adorable) trick up her sleeve that involves keeping your tot engrossed with a handful of raisins.

Once you create the perfect image, print it out on colored paper, frame it, paste it onto patterned cardstock or simply cut it out and hang. It makes for a wonderful first Christmas ornament for the new addition to your family!

Beautifully Beaded Ball

We adore this delightfully decorated glass ball ornament embellished with Perler Beads from Merriment Design.

In addition to the beads, you'll need clear glass ball ornaments and craft glue — that’s it! Plus, you can personalize it with your initial or a festive design of your choosing, making this ornament a great keepsake the family will enjoy for years to come.

Perfectly Personalized

Another marvelous idea to commemorate baby’s first Christmas is this personalized block ornament from mom Tara over at Suburble.

You can find the wooden blocks, scrapbook paper, ribbon and adhesive vinyl at your local craft store. Tara recommends using Mod Podge to adhere the paper to each side of the block.

This excellent hand-crafted piece can be personalized in so many ways — add a quote, a special date or a family photo — the possibilities are endless!

Festive Faces

This creative ornament idea from The Cheese Thief is so adorable, we just had to include it.

Mom Rena has come up with a simple way to recreate your little one’s face onto an ornament using a round plastic or glass ball, acrylic craft paint and a little imagination. A really smart idea is to use your child’s Wii Mii character as a starting point. You could even make one for every member of the family!

Be sure to check out Rena’s excellent step-by-step instructions and links to face drawing tutorials at the full post.

Sweet Spheres

Strips of scrapbook paper formed into spheres make up this nifty DIY paper ball ornament idea from Nalle's House. We love the idea of recycling leftover paper you have around the house, or finding a special print to match the rest of your holiday decor.

For a little added flair — and to tie in with her Christmas color scheme — Mom Anu added some lovely painted beads to her version. You can follow step-by-step instructions and see more of Anu’s gorgeous photography over at the post.

Snazzy Snowmen

We love that this classic and clever styrofoam snowman from Ricochet Away! is an easy project for kids (and adults!) of all ages.

Mom Rikka said her two children had a blast decorating the snowmen with buttons, sequins, beads, ribbons and more. Plus, the little ones will enjoy removing all of the elements and re-dressing the snowmen again and again for endless fun! Check out the site for full instructions and ideas on how to make adorable caps for the snowmen out of scraps of cloth and paper.
