Fall Décor Crafts for Kids

Ring in harvest and celebrate autumn with these creative ideas

Published on: October 07, 2014

Fun for Fall

We’ve found the perfect way to welcome the autumn season with your little ones! Explore the world of visual arts with this cool sculpting project featured on Classic Play.

You can make your own fall tree sculpture with metal wire to shape the trunk and branches. Aluminum foil and festively-colored modeling clay complete the look. Your kids will love that they built something from scratch and the finished product adds a creative splash to your fall décor.

This craft is best suited for elementary-school aged children, but with help from a grownup, smaller tots can join in, too. Get the full tutorial at Classic Play.

Sweet-Smelling Surprise

This fall craft for kids from the folks over at Babble Dabble Do is not only easy to make, it'll keep your house smelling fresh for months!

Mom Ana says the project combines entertainment with a lesson in fine motor skills for your little one. To get started, you’ll need some kind of citrus fruit (a lemon or an orange), whole cloves, a cinnamon stick and a ribbon. Insert the cloves into your citrus using any pattern you desire and hang it with the ribbon – it’s a genius holiday gift or unique house décor element!

Snow-tastic

It doesn’t get more festive than these magical little fall snow globes from Mom Spark. After some trial and error, Mom Allison said she’s worked out all the kinks and has come up with a seamless snow globe project sure to keep small hands busy this season.

Your kids will have a fabulous time finding the perfect fall statue to adorn the inside. Have them paint and add their name to the base of the globe, and once it’s complete, give it a shake and enjoy your new creation! Head to the full post for excellent directions and fool-proof tips.

Magical Forest House

Want to teach your kids about the benefits of using recycled materials? Then this unique forest house craft from Kiddie Foodies is just the ticket.

Mom Gosia recommends stepping outside for a crisp fall walk with your brood to collect seasonal forest goodies like acorns, pine needles, pine cones, fall leaves and more. Then grab a used tissue box to create the house and adorn it with the forest gems. It’s not only a ton of fun – it’s eco-friendly and educational!

Acorns for Autumn

Another great idea for using recycled materials in your crafting is this egg carton acorn ornament from Still Playing School.  This too-cute craft is constructed by cutting and folding an egg carton to look like an acorn. Mom Devany suggests letting your kids choose the paint colors and helping them with some of the trickier elements. Make it at home or in the classroom — either way, you’ll be ready for fall with this handmade gem!

Leaf It to Us

The crafty folks over at My Baking Addiction have a great idea to help your kids pass the time on those chilly fall days. Constructed with fall leaves gathered from outside, aluminum foil and spray adhesive, the eight-step process yields a gorgeous fall décor element that your guests will hardly believe is homemade!  It’s a wonderful way to bring a little bit of the autumn season inside.

Fantastic Mr.Owl

It doesn’t get much cuter than this fall owl made from brown felt, fake fall leaves (or, you can use the real deal!) and a splash of glitter. If you aren’t as lucky as Erlene of My Pinterventures to find a ready-made felt owl, you can download a template and cut it out yourself from felt or paper. Adults may need to handle the glue gun, but the kids will enjoy decorating the bird and adding their own special design touches.

Pictures on a Pumpkin

We love this sweet decoupage craft idea from Sugar and Charm that your family will have a great time personalizing. Mom Eden recommends using black and white images of all different sizes for a vintage touch, or have your kids cut out their favorite images from magazines. Then, simply paint the photos onto the pumpkin in layers. The best part — if you use a faux pumpkin, it will become a keepsake your family can enjoy during the fall season for years to come!

Acorn Illumination

Don’t miss out on this simple and adorable craft idea from Creative With Kids that gets the everyone out of the house to gather supplies.

Made with acorns collected from outside, Mom Alissa and her family used glue, cardboard and candles to create these festive candle holders. For an added bonus of fun, Alissa suggests letting the kids paint or glitter the acorns, too. This easy, yet elegant, idea will surely add a warm glow to your fall season!

Mask-querade

Do you have a little one who likes to play dress up? Consider making this simple, yet striking, leaf mask from our friends at Small + Friendly. Crafted from leaves, cardboard and string, this simple and delightful project will inspire a whole new kind of super hero around your house. Get double use out of it and hang the mask in your home for a pretty fall accent after play time is over.
