Day of the Dead isn't until next month, but festivities at the Tacoma Art Museum start on Saturday with an installation by artist Fulgencio Lazo of a huge, vibrantly colored tapete, or sand painting, and community altars. Guests are invited to watch the creation of the displays starting at 10 a.m.
Get the lead out at the Cribs 2 Bunks safety event on Saturday. The Tukwila store will have a certified inspector on hand so you can get your car seats checked; bring toys and other household products to test for lead and other yucky stuff.
This is really my favorite event ever. On Saturday, theater companies all over the region (including in Tacoma and Olympia) invite folks out for a free show during Live Theatre Week Family Day. Here's your chance to see The Green Sheep at Seattle Children's Theatre (and many, many other productions, workshops and open rehearsals) without laying down any cash. Go forth and explore.
