SUMMARY:13th Annual Head for the Cure 5K
DESCRIPTION:Head for the Cure\, a national nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness\, funding research\, and inspiring hope for those impacted by brain tumors\, is proud to host the 13th Annual Head for the Cure 5K – Seattle on Saturday\, July 25th\, 2026\, at 9:00 a.m. at Marymoor Park (17525 NE 65th St\, Redmond\, WA 98052). \nThe event is a powerful celebration of life\, courage\, and community as patients\, survivors\, caregivers\, and supporters unite to honor those affected by brain cancer. The 5K will also feature special recognitions for “Keeping the Faith” honorees (those living with a brain tumor diagnosis)\, “Legacy of Love” awards (caregivers)\, and the “Healthcare Hero” award (medical professionals making a difference in brain cancer treatment). \n“We are honored to return to Seattle and bring people together in the fight against brain cancer. By celebrating survivors\, honoring loved ones\, and supporting critical research\, every participant and donor helps move us closer to a cure\,” said Matt Anthony\, Founder of Head for the Cure. \nFunds raised will locally benefit brain tumor research at UW Medicine – Alvord Brain Tumor Center\, Seattle Children’s Hospital\, The Ben & Catherine Ivy Center for Advanced Brain Tumor Treatment and Research\, Path to Hope\, and other national brain cancer programs\, education\, and initiatives. \nHead for the Cure supports its mission through three strategic pillars:\n1. Building Awareness – Elevating national attention for the brain tumor community and the need for continued research and resources.\n2. Raising Funds – Hosting 5K events and fundraising campaigns to support clinical research\, education\, and support programs.\n3. Igniting Hope – Inspiring courage and resilience among patients\, caregivers\, and families affected by this disease. \nIn 2025\, Head for the Cure celebrated the highest-grossing year in its history by raising $3.9\nmillion through 25 5K events\, engaging 27\,000 participants and 972 teams nationwide. The\nfoundation also granted $2.4 million to programming and support initiatives\, re-launched thee patient and caregiver online resource\, Path to Hope\, and launched a pilot financial assistance\nprogram\, the Path to Relief Fund\, to assist with treatment and daily living costs. \nSince its founding in 2003\, Head for the Cure has gathered more than 325\,000 participants\,\ndonors and supporters in 35 cities\, and has raised more than $35 million for brain cancer\nresearch. \nEVENT DETAILS\nWHAT: Head for the Cure 5K – Seattle\nWHEN: 9:00 a.m. | Saturday\, July 25\, 2026\nWHERE: Marymoor Park\n17525 NE 65th St\, Redmond\, WA 98052\nREGISTER: www.headforthecure.org/seattle \nRegistration includes an event t-shirt and finisher medal. Fundraising prizes will be awarded to top teams and individuals. \nWHY IT MATTERS\nBrain tumors affect more than 700\,000 Americans annually\, and with more than 120 different tumor types\, treatment is incredibly complex. Despite this\, only five FDA-approved drugs and one medical device are available to treat brain tumors—underscoring the need for more funding and research.\nProceeds from the Seattle event will benefit:\n• Brain tumor research\, clinical trials\, and patient programs at UW Medicine – Alvord Brain Tumor Center\, Seattle Children’s Hospital\, The Ben & Catherine Ivy Center for Advanced Brain Tumor Treatment and Research.\n• Path to Hope – Head for the Cure’s patient and caregiver support program. \nABOUT HEAD FOR THE CURE\nHead for the Cure was created in honor of Chris Anthony\, a Kansas City native who lost his life\nto glioblastoma in 2003. What began as a small 5K Run/Walk with a few hundred participants\nhas grown into a national movement of over 325\,000 participants\, donors\, and supporters\ncommitted to defeating brain cancer step by step.
