The first Sunday Music at MOG debuts with the Kareem Kandi Band January 4, 2014. The music series will be presented on the first Sundays of the month and will feature live intimate performances from musicians in the Grand Hall. Brunch and beverages will be available for purchase from Choripan, the Museum Café, during the performances.
A native of the Pacific Northwest, Kareem Kandi will bring his classic style to the Museum. A performer, composer, and educator, Kandi grew up in the local jazz music scene and formed the Kareem Kandi band in 1996. Since then, Kandi and his band has won multiple awards in the Weekly Volcano for Best Jazz Group and has performed with many other artists. If not touring with his band, Kandi can be caught instructing at Tacoma School of the Arts, Pierce College, and Ted Brown Music or performing as a sideman for The Paperboys.
The Kareem Kandi Band’s performance will be the first of the series sponsored by The Klorfine Foundation and KPLU-FM. Admission for these events will be $18, which includes all-day museum admission. Students and MOG members are welcome and free of charge.
