Snohomish Pumpkin River Race

Calendar/Event Details

An old Snohomish Favorite returns! Adopt a Racing Pumpkin (or two) for only $5 each, at any "Official Pumpkin Adoption Station" for a chance to win cash and prizes including the grand prize: a $600 children's bicycle from Snohomish Bicycles! Then, on race day watch pumpkins race down the Snohomish River.

Here's how it works:
Starting on September 10 and through October 6, "Adopt” your racing pumpkin (or two) by visiting a participating location and purchasing $5 adoption certificates. (Note: You will not receive an actual pumpkin. They will be in training until race day!) "Adoption Station" businesses are located in and around Snohomish. Certificates are numbered, and corresponding numbers are placed on each adopted pumpkin before race time. (If you miss out on early adoption, a limited number of certificates will be available day of race at 9:30 am)

On the big day, a Snohomish Volunteer Search and Rescue Team plops the pumpkins in the river to float them on the tide toward the Avenue D Bridge. The first pumpkins “rescued” from the river at/near the bridge are the winners! The rest of the pumpkins continue their way down the river. Afterward, head out to your favorite Snohomish Pumpkin Farm for corn maze fun and u-pick pumpkins to take home.

Prizes include: $50 and $100 cash prizes, Stocker Farms corn maze passes, a specialty glass pumpkin ornament from Glitter & Ivy, dining gift card from Grilla Bites Cafe, a selection of Fall and Halloween specialty papers from The Paper Shoppe, and the Grand Prize, a $600 children’s bicycle from Snohomish Bicycles!

Helpful tips: Times are approximate and depend on tidal flow, and this is a slow race. You'll have plenty time for a bite to eat or a bit of shopping while the pumpkins float downstream.
