Seattle Baroque’s new music director, Alexander Weimann, leads the Orchestra in a program devoted to the power of water and its tides, both literally and as a metaphor for man’s fortunes.
The performance includes two Telemann orchestra suites: “Hamburg Ebb and Flow” depicting the most important water deities from Greek Mythology, and “La Bourse,” a sympathetic and rather humorous musical account of the tribulations American maritime trade caused The Frankfurt Stock Exchange. Handel’s immortal “Water Music,” a majestic work premiered on the Thames River as part of a Royal excursion, completes the program.
