Description

Renaissance Consort Music Reading Week Mon, Dec 19 — Thu, Dec 22 Enjoy the delights of social chamber music, Renaissance style! Join director Shulamit Kleinerman and some senior members of SHAK's Early Music Youth Academy for four casual vacation days of sight-reading fun, to discover the musically inventive intertwined melodies of fifteenth and sixteenth century European instrumental consort repertoire. There is no advance preparation and no performance requirement for this class. Students should be well-established late beginner to intermediate/advanced players of melodic instruments (modern string and wind instruments are welcome), roughly aged 10-15 and comfortable with sight-reading in keys including up to three sharps and three flats. The challenge of Renaissance consort music lies mostly in the playfulness of its rhythmic complexity. The notes themselves are not especially difficult, so we can focus on the satisfactions of playing beautifully together. WHEN: Mon-Th Dec 19-22, 10a-2p Early drop-off or late pick-up can sometimes be arranged; please inquire. WHERE: Shula's studio near the Lake City neighborhood of Seattle FEE: $150 For questions or to register, contact Shula (see Get Tickets link). Some financial aid may be available; please inquire.
