Bellevue Chamber Chorus Presents
“O Magnum Mysterium”
Experience the wonder and mystery of Christmas and the holidays with Bellevue Chamber Chorus, under the direction of Fredrick Lokken, as we present a concert of glorious music for the season. The title piece, “O magnum mysterium” (O great mystery), is featured in stunning settings by William Byrd (England), Ivo Antognini (Switzerland), Cesar Carrillo (Venezuela), and David Childs (New Zealand/US). The program also begins our year-long exploration into French music, with Christmas treasures by Charpentier (Gloria from Midnight Mass for Christmas) and Berlioz (Shepherd’s Farewell from The Infancy of Christ), delightful arrangements of French carols, and more. Beautiful contemporary works by David Dickau (Calm on the Listening Ear of Night), Abbie Betinis (In the Bleak Midwinter), and Seattle composer Bern Herbolsheimer (Silly Shepherds, Stop Your Sleeping) round out this truly joyous holiday event. Instrumental accompaniment includes Kristine Anderson on piano and organ, and pieces for flute, percussion, and handbells.
