DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, May 2\, 2026\, neighbors across Seattle will take a little time to connect; say hi\, check in\, share a laugh\, or do something kind. No perfection required. No big plans needed. Just people\, showing up for each other. \nThis year is extra special. Neighbor Day 2026 kicks off the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods’ 35th Anniversary\, which is a yearlong celebration of community\, connection\, and the power of neighbors working together.  \nNeighbor Day began in 1995 as a proclamation from Mayor Norm Rice as “a special day to celebrate the goodness in those around us and to reach out and strengthen our bond to each other.” Each year\, we encourage people to use Neighbor Day as inspiration to connect with their neighbors and indulge in random acts of kindness. Whether it’s a friendly chat over the fence\, a small gesture of appreciation\, or organizing a neighborhood potluck\, these small actions can make a big difference. Check out our Easy Acts of Kindness list below! \nEasy Acts of Kindness: \nNeighbor Day provides the perfect opportunity to de-stress and reconnect with neighbors\, friends\, and communities through small acts of generosity.  Here are just a few ideas: \n\nSay hello to the people on your street and learn their names.\nDrop flowers or a kind note at neighbor’s mailbox/walkway.\nHost a neighborhood potluck.\nBuy and deliver groceries for a neighbor in need.\nOrganize a game\, sporting event\, block party\, or group art project.\nHave a neighborhood treasure hunt.\nStart a Neighborhood Joy Board or outdoor art gallery.\nHelp neighbors who are homebound with yard work/weeding.\nOrganize a neighborhood cleanup effort.\nCook a meal or make a treat for your neighbors.\nDonate materials to or create a Little Free Pantry or Little Free Library in your neighborhood.\nOrganize a food drive for your local food bank.\n\n
