SUMMARY:Tibet Fest
DESCRIPTION:Tibet Fest will take place August 8-9\, 2026 in the Armory Food & Event Hall. The festival is part of the Seattle Center Festál series. It is free and open to the public. \nSeattle Center Festál presents Tibet Fest (pronounced T-bet Fest) in partnership with the Tibetan Association of Washington (TAW). The festival showcases traditional and contemporary Tibetan art\, music\, dance\, art and more. \nThe public rarely has the opportunity to experience Tibet’s unique and endangered culture. The Tibetan diaspora outside Tibet is very small in number and it is challenging to preserve and propagate the culture among the younger generation. Tibet Fest provides a unique opportunity for the community to embrace their Tibetan identity with pride\, and introduce themselves to the public as being a part of the greater diverse population in this city and nation. \nThe focus of Tibet Fest is to preserve the culture in their community and also provide an opportunity for the broader public to experience this very rich and unique\, but often inaccessible culture.

SUMMARY:BIMA’s Treasure Trek: A Glass Float Seek & Keep
DESCRIPTION:Grab your galoshes and get ready to discover art where you least expect it in BIMA’s Treasure Trek: A Glass Float Seek & Keep! \nThis summer\, 200 hand-blown glass orbs will be hidden on public lands across Kitsap County just waiting to be discovered and treasured by intrepid art lovers like yourself. The rules are simple: you find it\, you keep it! (Please only take one per person so more people can enjoy the hunt.) \nThe orbs will be hidden in parks\, on trails and beaches\, and throughout public lands across Kitsap County. Never quite in plain sight\, the floats could be behind a log\, in a tree\, in a hollowed-out stump\, under a bush\, or other spots that help camouflage the grapefruit-sized artworks. But there’s no need to go tromping around off-trail\, these translucent treasures will always be about an arm’s reach from marked pathways. \nThese glass orbs stamped with BIMA’s logo are created by Hilltop Artists\, a Tacoma-based youth development arts non-profit. These young glassblowers will create 200 unique “floats” inspired by the glass fishing net floats used by Japanese fisherman. \nFound one? It’s yours to keep! Keep just one\, but continue to hunt and share photos if you’d like—post your find on social media with the hashtag #BIMATreasureTrek and be entered to win one of five prize packages. Plus\, tag us at @bimuseum.of.art so we can reshare your photos! \nOur first float drop will be June 1\, 2026 and more will be hidden over the next two weeks\, so don’t give up if you don’t find one on your first outing. \nClick here for Participating Locations \n

SUMMARY:StoryWalk at Lake Wilderness Arboretum
DESCRIPTION:The Lake Wilderness Arboretum and Maple Valley Library have partnered together to bring a StoryWalk to Maple Valley. StoryWalk is an innovative approach to encouraging people of all ages to get out and walk while enjoying wonderful children’s books. With her wealth of experience\, Sharon Chastain\, the children’s librarian at the Maple Valley Library\, selects the best children’s books for this story walk project. Our hope is that this feature will provide children a new way to see\, learn and experience the amazing world that we live in. \nJune StoryWalk: \nThis month’s StoryWalk selection\, Trillions of Trees written by Kurt Cyrus\, is an entertaining and rhyming story that celebrates the importance of planting different trees and preserving ecosystems. This book will make you laugh out loud and begin to feel exhausted as you watch the work of planting trillions of trees. So\, get outside\, go for a walk\, and read a book.

SUMMARY:Ai Weiwei: Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads
DESCRIPTION:Get up close with Ai Weiwei’s Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads (2010) at the Olympic Sculpture Park\, where you can walk among these monumental sculptures. Consisting of 12 zodiac head sculptures arranged in an arcing semicircle\, each animal in Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads stands over ten feet tall and weighs over 1500 pounds. The sculptures are installed in order of the traditional Chinese zodiac cycle: Rat\, Ox\, Tiger\, Rabbit\, Dragon\, Snake\, Horse\, Ram\, Monkey\, Rooster\, Dog\, and Boar. \nThe works reconceive 12 zodiac heads that once decorated an 18th-century Qing imperial fountain before they were looted during the Second Opium War (1856–1860). Seven are based on the original heads that have survived\, and Ai researched and reimagined the five animals still missing to complete the zodiac. This work embodies Ai’s long engagement with questioning the tendency to value the real over the fake and the original over the copy. \nCircle of Animals/Zodiac Heads joins over twenty monumental sculptures in the park\, including The Eagle (1971) by Alexander Calder\, Wake (2002–3) by Richard Serra\, and Seattle Cloud Cover (2006) by Teresita Fernández. See this temporary installation situated in the Ackerly Meadow\, just outside of the PACCAR Pavilion at the Olympic Sculpture Park. Seattle’s largest green space\, the nine-acre sculpture park\, is free and open daily from thirty minutes before sunrise to thirty minutes after sunset. \nOn display Mar 30\, 2026–Oct 24\, 2027. \nImage sourced from event website. SUMMARY:‘Tadaima: I’m Home’ at MOHAI
DESCRIPTION:After more than 80 years\, a treasured collection returns “home” to Seattle’s Japanese American community. In 1942 dozens of traditional Boys’ and Girls’ Day dolls were entrusted to Bailey Gatzert Elementary School by Japanese American families facing forced incarceration. Most were never reclaimed after the war. Artist Miya Sukune uses recent research in MOHAI’s collection\, as well as interviews with Japanese American survivors and their descendants\, to create an installation called “Tadaima\,” meaning “I’m home.” \n“Tadaima: I’m Home! Bringing Seattle’s Girls’ and Boys’ Day Dolls Home” reconnects the dolls with their traditional role of protecting and blessing children. It invites visitors to celebrate the resilience\, memory\, and enduring traditions of the Japanese American Community. \nImage sourced from event organizer.

SUMMARY:Free Admission to Henry Art Gallery
DESCRIPTION:At the Henry\, we believe that art is for everyone. Art has the power to inspire\, ignite new ideas\, and create a more equitable society. Today\, I’m pleased to share that\, starting May 30\, admission to the Henry will be completely free for all visitors. \nThis important step reaffirms our long-standing commitment to diversity\, equity\, inclusion\, and access at a time when these fundamental rights are threatened and under attack. It also brings us closer to our vision: a world where art leads everyone to discover new possibilities in themselves\, others\, and the world around them. By removing admission fees\, we aim to lower barriers and create a welcoming space where all people feel seen\, heard\, and valued—something more vital now than ever. \nImage sourced from event website.

SUMMARY:A Room for Animal Intelligence at SAM
DESCRIPTION:We\, the animals of the world\, invite you to meet with us at SAM. One hundred representatives are waiting to talk about what we see happening on our planet. A few of us share your couch\, while others of us are your lunch. Some of us fly overhead and watch what you do. Others hide when they see you coming as you can be insensitive and occasionally ruthless. You might call us exotic and cute or condemn us as pests and predators\, but we all have our roles to play. \nSome of you recognize our intelligence. Your attention and words fill us with hope. Please consider our points of view and listen to our voices. We sing\, chitter\, buzz\, and howl for various reasons. Take a break from reading about another AI\, and come to the museum to meet the largest wolf\, mouse\, and mosquito you’ve ever seen. Let us remind you that we are also wonders of the world—you humans are not alone. And we abide by this suggestion: “No animal should ever jump up on the dining room furniture unless absolutely certain that he can hold his own in the conversation” (Fran Leibowitz\, “Pointers for Pets\,” Social Studies\, 1981). \nImage sourced from event website.
