SUMMARY:Amorous Amphibians Night Hike
DESCRIPTION:This fan favorite is back! What’s all that racket? Why\, the sweet sounds of amorous amphibians have begun! \nParticipants will learn about native frogs\, their calls and habits in an engaging visual and audio presentation and then head into our frog-filled wetlands at dusk to hunt for breeding frogs\, toads\, salamanders\, newts and their eggs. This event is always a sell-out\, so hop to it! \nThis event is best-suited for ages six years and up. After the presentation we’ll divide up into small groups of ten people each for the night hike down to our Cattail Marsh and Pond. \n\nFamilies welcome!\nAdults without children welcome too! (it’s not just “for kids”)\nThe presentation is ~45 mins and seated. The presentation’s content and depth and hike length are developmentally suited for ages 6+.\nOur nighthike to the wetlands is short distance\, but is on trails with roots\, a small log footbridge and it will be dark. If you or any member of your party (any age) is not sure-footed\, please take note that the terrain is not perfectly even.\nOne trail only will accommodate all-terrain strollers.\nOne of our trails to our Cattail Marsh wetland is ADA accessible. If you have accessibility needs\, please contact us ahead of time at communityevents@islandwood.org\nInfants on laps\, or in baby carriers (Baby Bjorn\, backpack\, Ergo\, wrap\, etc.) are free of charge.\nWear shoes appropriate for a light hike such as sneakers or hiking boots.\nWear or bring warm layers for a cool spring evening. Bring or wear your raingear as a layer. The frogs love the rain (they actually sing louder)\, but we humans want to stay dry and comfortable so we can participate fully.\nBring a flashlight versus a headlamp (as headlamps tend to temporarily blind other people)\, we only have a few to loan.\nAs always\, we love dogs\, but please leave yours at home unless they are a service animal.\n\nWe cannot accommodate scout troops or organized groups at this particular event due to our limited capacity.
