SUMMARY:Arctic Visitors Bird Walk
DESCRIPTION:Each winter\, Lake Washington becomes a temporary home for birds that spend their summers breeding in the far north of Alaska and Canada. Join us for a relaxed and curious bird walk focused on these arctic visitors — from dabbling ducks and diving grebes to coots and other cold-weather travelers who arrive just as the days grow shorter. \nYour guide and instructor\, Nick Dujnic\, will start indoors with a 30-minute classroom session designed to help you get familiar with the waterfowl you’re most likely to see\, learning what to look for and how to tell similar species apart. Then you’ll head outside for a 90-minute walk along the shores of Seward Park\, scanning the lake to see who’s paddling\, diving\, or resting on the water that day. \nThis program is designed for all ages and experience levels — whether you’re brand new to birding or simply enjoy slowing down and noticing the seasonal rhythms of nature. Binoculars will be provided\, and we will help you spot birds and answer questions along the way. \nThe walk will follow flat\, paved pathways\, but participants should be prepared to walk up to 2.5 miles. Please wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather —winter birding is best enjoyed when you’re warm and cozy. \nCome discover the surprising abundance of life on Lake Washington in winter\, and meet the birds who travel thousands of miles to spend the season with us. \nPreregistration required. Check event pages to see when registration opens for each individual session. \nImage sourced from event website.
