June is Great Outdoors month and Merrell is inviting you to celebrate with us by taking activities outdoors under the Sun and stars! This time around we have a great panel of children's authors reading and answering questions.
Merrell exists to share the simple power of being outside and we are looking to double down on that mission during Great Outdoors Month in Seattle to show that your gym or yoga studio could be Gas Works Park, your work from home office could be a picnic table at Myrtle Edwards, or your kitchen could be the fields of Jefferson Park.
Join us as we enjoy all the benefits of being in the great outdoors right in the city of Seattle with a bunch of free activities to enjoy the Great Outdoors... Plus RAFFLES at every event for participants.

Bring the family and Join Merrell for a reading of picture books by some great local children's authors. In addition you can bring any questions you might have for the future writers and illustrators in your family!
Our guests on the day will be:
Each author will take us on a journey with one of their books as you enjoy the soft grass and fresh air. Once each author has finished their reading, you will be able to have any questions you may have answered.
All you need to bring is a blanket or some chairs to get comfortable, maybe a snack and a drink and an open ear ready for some stories!

A former software engineer, Laurie Ann Thompson now writes for young people to help them understand the world we live in so they can help make it a better place for all. She strives to write nonfiction that encourages imagination and fiction that reflects universal truths, including the picture book biography Emmanuel’s Dream, which won the ALA Schneider Family Book Award; Be a Changemaker, an inspiring how-to guide for teens who want to change the world; and the Two Truths And A Lie series for middle-grade readers (co-authored with Ammi-Joan Paquette). Visit her online at lauriethompson.com.
Laurie will be reading from her book Two Truths and a lie: Forces of Nature - one out of every three stories is a fabrication, see if you can't spot it!
Lily LaMotte is the debut author of the middle grade graphic novel MEASURING UP from HarperCollins/HarperAlley on October 27, 2020. When she isn’t writing picture books and middle grade graphic novels, she’s cooking up new recipes. Sometimes, when she sees the gray clouds outside her window in the Pacific Northwest, she loads up the campervan for a writing retreat camping trip with her husband and two dogs.
I grew up in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon where I developed a love of hamburgers, drawing, and anthropomorphic food. Upon becoming an adult, I decided to follow my childhood dreams of being a cartoonist and picture book maker.
My artistic career has been a mix of comics, fine art, and illustration. I've worked with publications such as: The Chicago Reader, The Seattle Weekly, The Stranger, Nickelodeon Magazine, and Highlights. My debut picture book, Boats for Papa has earned many accolades and awards and my picture book, Laundry Day, was not only a Junior Library Guild Selection for Fall 2016 but it also received a 2018 Ezra Jack Keats Honor Award for Writing. My most recent picture books, Henry and Bea and Daisy, are also Junior Library Guild Selections!
I also illustrate for other writers and collaborate with people on books! Vincent Comes Home, is a collaboration with my funny and amazingly talented husband, Aaron Bagley, whom I love working with on books, art, and Halloween costumes.
I live in Seattle, Washington in a castle in the sky with my wonderful husband, painfully adorable son, and a slew of houseplants that all have names. I still love hamburgers, drawing, and anthropomorphic food.
Follow your dreams, kids!
