SUMMARY:How to Talk to Your Kids About Money at Every Age
DESCRIPTION:You’ll leave this lecture with many ways on how to help your kid/teen acquire financial literacy skills through action. \nSchedule\n– 12:00 – 12:15 – Networking / Arrival\n– 12:15 – 1:00 – Money Talk + Strategizing Seminar\n– 1:00 – 1:15 – Project Planning\n– 1:15 – 1:30 – Networking \n> What are you getting yourself into? \nI teach kids and audiences how to invest in a world they want to see. To put their money where their mouth is and influence change around them. \nWe’ll also discuss the ways money is manipulated by financial institutions and used against us… since so often\, the time in your life you learn a LOT about money is when you’re older and can afford less risk. So you take the safe route\, even though you may not ethically agree with it entirely. \nBut ignorance is bliss\, and knowledge is power. When people are better informed\, they can make better decisions. \nOne of my favorite quotes is\, “When a brave man takes a stand\, the spines of others often stiffen.” So\, let’s learn about the popular ways people make money – then look into the pro/cons of each… and how we can be a bit more risky – yet – beneficial for the long term. \nKids have the great opportunity to take risks\, follow their intuition\, and support a future they want to grow up in. \nWhen I tell people I teach kids about money\, nearly everyone replies either:\n– Do you teach adults?\n– I wish I had that as a kid! \nLet’s do both. Review what we already know about money and figure out some fun ways to get your kids more money-conscious. \nFinancial literacy is long-term thinking. It’s a way to take care of yourself with skills/tools to provide for yourself. \nWe’ll talk about appropriate ways to discuss money with: \nBabies: respect for money \nToddlers: critical thinking in spending \nKids: your turn to earn + spend \nPreTeens: your turn to invest \nTeens: long-term thinking \nYoung Adults: share your story \nAdults: reassurance and reminders \nYour host: Kelly Kirk\, founder of Kelly Tutors\, educator to 10\,000+ students\, and mother of a 4yo. \nFree. Capitol Hill Branch\, Seattle Public Library. July 22\, 12–1:30pm.
