SUMMARY:Strawberry Fields Forever: Picker Cabin Stories
DESCRIPTION:Experience the picker camp stories of the Indipino\, Filipino\, and Japanese farm children\, now elders\, who grew up in the Bainbridge Island strawberry and raspberry field culture during the 1950s and 1960s. This short film explores the history and origins of picker cabins and bunkhouses on Bainbridge\, the people who built them and who lived in them\, and the cultural legacy they hold today. The stories in the film are told through the eyes of children and their memories of the First Nation families who came from Canada during the summer to pick berries\, the Filipino manongs who lived in the cabins during the winter months\, how these memories shaped generations to come\, and the rich relationships throughout. Picker cabins are cultural artifacts that connect to broader themes to land and agriculture. \nThere will be a discussion following film screening with Corpuz Sisters\, Lily Kodama\, Carol Kubota\, DyAnne Koura\, Joann Oligario\, and Gilda Rapada. \nAlso enjoy Filipino songs and dances and free strawberry shortcake during the event! \nImage sourced from event website.
