Juneteenth Week at NAAM

Join Northwest African American Museum and the community for a three-day celebration of our latest federal holiday commemorating the freedom of enslaved people in Texas -- and remembering their extended suffering. 

Youth Day: Saturday, June 17, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Join us for a soccer clinic at Sam Smith Park, story time at NAAM, a Knowledge is Power Book Giveaway starting at 12PM, arts activities for the whole family, a "Play Time" game show, and the unveiling of the Sistah Sci-fi Book Vending Machine. 


Film Screening: Sunday, June 18, 10 a.m.to 5 p.m., NAAM

Enjoy the NAAM's first Juneteenth Film Festival, showing movies and documentaries about Juneteenth throughout the day. The films featured are 
"13th" directed by Ava Duvernay, "Harriet Tubman: Visions of Freedom" directed by Stanley Nelson, "The 1619 Project: Race" directed by Nikole Hannah-Jones, "Juneteenth: Faith and Freedom" directed by Rasool Berry, and "Juneteenth: The Galveston Story" by KHOU. Refreshments and concessions are available and the museum will be open for visitors throughout the day.  

Juneteenth Skate Party at Judkins Park: Monday, June 19 10AM-5PM

Join us on Juneteenth for a day filled with outdoor activities at Judkins Park such as two Core power Yoga classes, Black vendors, Kraken outdoor skate rink, sponsored giveaways, and a Skate Party with complimentary skate rentals. The museum will also be open Monday from 11AM-3PM. We recommend you bring blankets and lawn chairs for our outdoor seating areas and a yoga mat from home if you plan to register for the Core Power Yoga class.
