The Soul of Seattle was established in 2019 to empower the Seattle-based Black culinarians and to highlight and build community around the Black Excellence prominent in Seattle. With the current climate and the needs of the community in 2021, The Soul of Seattle aims to offer support where it is most needed this year: local Black-owned restaurants and local nonprofit Mentoring Urban Students & Teens (MUST) who empower youth of color in Seattle.
The Soul of Seattle might be virtual this year, but we’re still bringing the flavor and excitement. Throughout February we’re adding a little spice to each Friday night by hosting a series of virtual events including local meal pickup, live cooking demonstrations, a live panel with Black culinary leaders, and a special DJ set to wrap up our closing night party.
February 5th's event is a live cooking demo with chefs Dre Neeley of Gravy on Vashon, Sabrina Tinsley of La Spiga, and hosted by Matthew Lewis of Where ya at, Matt? February 12th's event is a live panel with Black culinary leaders, hosted by Marcus Samuelsson. Panel includes special guests, Eric Adjepong, Mashama Bailey, Edouardo Jordan, Kwame Onwuachi & Shakirah Simley. They will discuss Marcus' new book, The Rise, as well as the joys and challenges of being a Black leader in their industry. Elevate this experience with a meal pick up from Cafe Campagne & Salare.
