The Washington Post, the New York Times and many other sources are speaking about the educational inequities, that are more evident now than ever, across our nation. With the covid-19 outbreak, we are able to actually see the education debt in action; some students will make significant educational progress during this hiatus from school, as many of their peers lose ground. The educational opportunity gap deepens due in part to the difference in parental support, resources, and meeting the of students and their families. Furthermore, the difference in teacher experience and availability to academic resources at the school level further deepen the gap. As we have re-opened schools, we don’t simply want to frantically struggle to restore the status quo because the status quo wasn’t operating at an effective level and certainly wasn’t serving all of our children fairly.
