NYHS is the Pacific Northwest's premier college preparatory, dual-curriculum Jewish high school. NYHS has been educating and nurturing Jewish teens since 1974. Small classes offer students and teachers the opportunity to forge lasting relationships that exist long after students have graduated. NYHS students learn beyond the walls of the classroom. A cornerstone of the NYHS experience is a specialized educational trip in each grade. Freshmen Sailing & Environmental Science Trip. Sophomores Leadership Mission to Washington DC. Junior Olympic Peninsula Biology & Ecology trip. Senior Astronomy Goldendale trip Our students are accepted at a wide range of competitive colleges and universities. Currently NYHS alumni are studying at Brandeis, Columbia, George Washington University, McGill University, Tulane University, Cornell University, New York University, Northwestern, Stern College, Touro College, Washington University in St. Louis, Yeshiva University, Yale and more. Our students attend local universities too. Over the past three years, our UW acceptance rate is near 100%! NYHS: Not just academics! We are a warm and welcoming Jewish community. Community service is part of our curriculum and mission. We celebrate Jewish holidays and lifecycle events together. NYHS: Arts, Drama & Sport Student athletes have qualified for State in basketball, volleyball, golf, cross country and track. We are proud of our students' achievements and we are also proud of our 'no-cut' policy for all student athletes, artists and performers. Our student artists have been recognized each year by the Mercer Island Visual Arts League. NYHS is a unique and dynamic school. Our morning is spent immersed in Jewish learning. Our afternoon is spent exploring a wide range of college preparatory subjects.
Throughout the year, there are a variety of special programs on and off campus for students and families. NYHS is located in a beautiful wooded area of Mercer Island. NYHS's campus includes a science lab, sport court, synagogue, and conference center. Technology is integrated into the curriculum. Classrooms are equipped with Smart Boards and wireless projectors. All freshmen receive e-tablets loaded with full course materials in both Judaic and College Prep. studies. No more heavy back packs!
We are committed to meeting the needs of all of our students. We partner with the student, the parents and the support staff to help each student find success. We know that each student is an individual with his/her unique way of learning. We want to support our students’ learning. Here is a short list of some of the ways we help our students succeed at NYHS and in life. •Support students through mainstreaming •Provide appropriate accommodations and modifications when needed •Develop effective learning plan •Commitment to small class size allows greater interaction between student and teacher •Differentiated instruction •Self contained courses provided when needed in most subject matters including: Mathematics, Language Arts, Social Studies, Foreign Languages and Judaic Studies. •Learning Specialist to assist students with specific educational needs •Reducing course load to accommodate student learning needs •Counselor who works closely with students to make sure we meet both emotional and academic needs •Partnership with Mercer Island School District and Yellowood Academy (Educational Tutoring and Consulting) to provide additional support when needed •Peer buddy system that allows older students to mentor younger students
Over the past 5 years, 40% of our seniors have been recognized as Washington State Honors Scholars and have placed among the top 10% of Washington State seniors.

We offer a vibrant arts program led by art instructor, Yulia Chubotin. Each year, NYHS student participate in art competitions and traveling art exhibits.
NYHS offers men's Basketball and coed Track & Field, Cross Country, and Golf teams.
NYHS offers Women's Volleyball and Basketball teams and co-ed Cross Country, Track & Field and Golf. NYHS Women's basketball team played in the State Tournament in 2012.
NYHS offers a variety of student-led clubs and activities including: Community Service, Spirit, Committee for Israel Affairs, Green Team, Snack Shack, Shabbaton and more. We also offer art and drama.
We offer a variety of honors level classes in both our College Preparatory and Judaic programs. Honors: Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Science, US History, Language Arts/English Lit, Physics, Hebrew, Spanish, Jewish Law, Torah and more Computer Science for College Credit: We now offer UW Computer Science for college credit. This course is offered to Juniors and Seniors. Ask about our AP options

We offer Spanish and Hebrew language. Students must take a minimum of 3 years of a language.

NYHS students apply and are accepted to a wide range of colleges and universities in the United States and abroad. Over the last five years, our UW acceptance rate is nearly 100%.
