Welcome to Van Asselt Elementary School. Van Asselt is located in the South Beacon Hill area in Seattle, Washington. It stands on part of the 300-acres original homestead donated by Henry Van Asselt, one of the first pioneer settlers of King county. The school is named after this pioneer. It was the the first school built on the South end of Seattle as a one-room school house in 1862. In 1907, a four room school building took its place. This historical landmark, having been upgraded twice, was still used by the Van Asselt community until the spring of 2009. In September 2009, we moved south to the former African American Academy building. We are a diverse community of learners, with staff and students coming from 5 continents and speaking over 20 languages.
