West Seattle Elementary school serves a diverse community of K-5 children in the High Point neighborhood of West Seattle. Our highly qualified staff is dedicated to creating and maintaining a safe and engaging learning climate for all our students. We offer many opportunities for students to grow in academic excellence, leadership and creative and artistic endeavors. West Seattle Elementary is committed to a strong literacy and math curriculum. Math instruction is based on the district-adopted Everyday Mathematics curriculum. Reading instruction for the 2011-2012 school year is based on the Reader's Workshop model. West Seattle Elementary provides strong instruction in science. Our school provides science instruction and enrichment by a dedicated science teacher on a weekly basis to all students. Our school library is staffed with a full-time librarian and all students visit the library on a weekly basis for instruction in information literacy skills. The library has a collection of over 10,000 children’s books. Community engagement and relationship-building are key features of our school climate.
