The mission of Lakeside School is to develop in intellectually capable young people the creative minds, healthy bodies, and ethical spirits needed to contribute wisdom, compassion, and leadership to a global society. We provide a rigorous and dynamic academic program through which effective educators lead students to take responsibility for learning. We are committed to sustaining a school in which individuals representing diverse cultures and experiences instruct one another in the meaning and value of community and in the joy and importance of lifelong learning.

While Lakeside does not offer AP courses, the intensity of our program meets or exceeds AP material. In May 2011, 265 students from the classes of 2011-2014 sat for 471 examinations in 24 subjects. 78% scored 4s and 5s, and 94% scored 3 or better. Fifty seniors have earned AP Scholar Award Recognition.
We believe that diversity is a critical component of education excellence, and that the school needs people of every race, religion, ethnicity, and socioeconomic background as students, faculty, and staff. Lakeside is now admitting the highest percentage of students of color in the school’s history, with an all-school percentage of 51 percent. Lakeside provides financial aid to 29 percent of those new students. The average tuition for a student receiving financial aid is $7,000, and all financial aid recipients receive a stipend to cover books, field trips, dances, and other expenses.
