Mission: Boys & Girls Clubs of King County exists to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. Core Impact Areas: • Academic Success—Our goal is to prepare our teens to graduate from high school and be ready and qualified to attend college or trade school, gain employment or join the military. • Healthy Lifestyles—We educate and prepare our kids and teens to adopt a healthy diet, practice healthy lifestyle choices and make a lifelong commitment to fitness. • Good Character & Citizenship—Our programs teach our youth to be engaged citizens by getting involved in the community, registering to vote and modeling strong character. Highlighted Programs: • MicroSociety allows kids to create their own governments, business ventures and currency, utilizing life skills and learning opportunities in every Club activity. • YouthForce’s paid internship programs develop low-income and minority youth into independent learners, able to realize their personal and professional goals. • Project Learn reinforces and enhances the skills and knowledge young people gain at school through "high-yield" learning activities at the Club. Who We Serve and Where We Serve Them: • More than 15,000 members annually • 12 Clubs—Ballard, Bainbridge Island, Federal Way, Kirkland, Mercer Island, North Seattle, Rainier Vista (Rainier Valley), Redmond/Sammamish, Renton/Skyway, Rotary (Central District), Southwest (White Center) and Wallingford • 2 Teen Centers—EX3 Ron Sandwith Teen Center in Federal Way and the Sammamish EX3 Teen Center • 26 before- and after-school program sites (includes child care and pre-K education assistance and drop-in) History: • Boys & Girls Clubs of America founded in 1860 • Greenwood Boys Club founded in 1943 (first club in King County—now North Seattle Boys & Girls Club) Who We Are and What We Provide: • 40 locations with open doors throughout King County provide space for children and teens to learn, create and attain their best in academics, athletics and more. • We are a facility-based youth service organization that provides daily access to a diverse set of programs designed for all kids aged 5-18! Clubs are open after-school, evenings and weekends as well as daytime hours in the summer. • Clubs are fun, exciting places where staff and volunteers focus on inspiring each member and on enriching the lives of thousands of kids every day. • What’s the cost for a place to dream? We ask only $36 per year for membership, but we strive never to turn a child away. Last year, more than 4,000 children received a scholarship to waive all or part of their membership. And while membership is only $36, it actually costs $500 to provide a year of homework help, healthy snacks and mentorship. • Our goal is to put a membership card in the hand of every child or teen who wants to belong.
